Sounds like a lot of people rely just on FTA for their tv viewing. Get a backup when times like this happen.
Coolsat 5K no tv
B3V sub @ $110/month
Watching a Pansat 2500A all channels for Dish & B3V PRICELESS

I'm glad this is working out for you alfonzz0. But what's really priceless is an Nfusion which is pretty much immune to hits like this. I'll give DN credit in their effort, they even got the Nfusion yesterday for about 6 hours. Bravo!

It's a box that doesn't work with bins but rather keeps going on IKS, info over the internet automatically. No chasing bins. It works like magic. If it rarely goes down, like it did yesterday, you don't have to do anything. It comes back up by itself in a few hours.

How does it work out with dial-up?
Living in a rural area has its many advantages. Only having access to dial-up is not one of them :(

i live in a rural area with no high speed only dial up.
Do I have to leave the box plugged in and be online?
Do you have a site you could refer me to to research further?
Thanks.

I have high speed but it doesn't scratch the surface of my bandwidth, so I believe dial up will work too. It blips about every 10 to 20 seconds. The drawback with dial up, if it will work with dial up, would be that you would need to dedicate that phone line to it which means no phone on that line when you're using that line with the Nfusion. It does need a constant connection because of the blips. When I first got mine I tested it by disconnecting the ethernet connection after I got it up and it went down in about 10 to 20 seconds. So, for those that believe that you can get it working then disconnect it from the internet, it won't work that way.

LOL Dude ... forget even thinking about the Nfusion if your on dial up. I have one here and it was gone from about 5 to 11pm last night. Im running it through hight speed and it needs to be connected 24\7 in order to keep working. No internet to Nfusion... Last month we got a statement from our internet provider from what it seems the box itself uploaded and downloaded over 30gigs... we are running it on a scanner that will show us how much it up and downloads on 24 hour basis... yet again Tv is working... so im all good... hopefully we get some bins for the 5k would like to hook up the tv in the room.

I would not suggest NFUSION on a dialup but thats up to you. Think about Sonicview or Viewsat. We were down less than a day with this last hit. With any luck, the Coolsats will be up soon. They usually follow the Viewsat releases by a few days.

Yea I agree Jerry746. Dial up for this box seems like too much of a problem. Also, it seems that the FTA coders are catching up because yesterday was suppose to be a big hit and the bins were promptly coming out this morning. Thanks.

I am looking into a Captive Works 700. Can someone tell me how the DVR works on this? Do you have to insert a memory stick or does it have its own memory?

Jerry746, I've been looking at the sv4000. From the responses and reviews I've seen, it looks to be a great choice.
I'm staying away from HD as far as fta goes. My B3V sub has the hd package and I haven't really watched enough hd stations to put out the extra cash for fta.

Hi guys n gals. That nfusion sounds good but it still costs alot more. I have dial up with vs ultra and cs5, went down at 5.00 pm, made it through the evening with the kids and back up this morning on the vs ultra for $ 5.95. cdn per month, not bad eh?

I try to stay on top of things and change with the times to have the best available options to stay up. Here's something to think about. The B3V card swap that is coming and should be complete by sometime later this year, maybe, will throw a monkey wrench into all of our plans and the only thing we can do at this point is to sit back and watch how it shakes out. If B3V is successful in killing FTA with this swap like DTV was several years ago, DN will follow B3V's lead and do the same - but right now, nobody knows. The good news is that if B3V is successful in putting us down with this swap, we'll probably still have B3V until sometime later this year and DN through next year after they follow B3V's lead.
Now, here comes the plastic man. The new cards that B3V is switching to are said to be "glitch" free. I read about these new cards a couple of weeks ago and forgot what they are called, but these new cards have a microchip on them that prevents anyone from "glitching" them - not even B3V themselves can get into them once they're programmed without ruining them. Glitching means reprogramming them to "open" them up to get all channels. They say, and what they are saying now may be wrong, any attempt to reprogram them will render the card useless - we'll surely see.
So really, nobody knows what's up with this card change. If it works, we may be dead by mid next year. If it doesn't kill us, then the only chance they may have to kill us is through the courts and they are already going through that route too. So, they're after us through both means - through new encryption and through the courts. If the new encryption doesn't get us and if the courts do, we have at least a couple more years - good luck.
