currently purchased a dish & dm500s, set the dish up and trying to receive freeview :) from astra 28.2e

the dish is in the correct position (to the best of my knowledge)

ive used dishpointer website, and also checked out my dish comparing to the neighbours - which is pointing in the correct position.

the only thing that is different is:

my dish is not on the same level as theres on the house..
    and
my dish is a solid dish and 80cm - wereas im lead to beleive skys is a mesh dish with 60cm?

could someone give me any guidance at all?
the dish has been up there for well over 5 days now - and still.. each day a few hours.. ive had no joy in picking up anything or locking onto a satalite?

am completely new to satalite.. but know quite a bit on the cable side..

so if anyone is willing to give me advise as a newbie (on sat terms) but not a newbie to abbreviations and the working of these devices.. thanks!

    more information:

ive pointed it to 28.2e (astra) - i am getting on the reading on the dm500s:

    SNR: 63% (not moving)
    AGC: 85%-95% (flickering)
    BER: 0% (not moving)

currently i cannot pick up any freeview channels and when i do a transponder scan it picks up nothing?
(by this it said it could not lock into satalite)

hi.have a box with same problem.difficult to get answer.im sending box back because someone told me its a fault.im told its the transistor thats not working properly.i beleive 63% is not strong enough signal to lock on to transponder.i have another dm box which works perfect on same dish.you can replace transistor but if under warranty, your better off sending it back.if you open it warranty is void.hope this helps.

hi mate, its a brand spanking new box purchased from ebay and it only 5 days old (in my posession) - i am going to purchase a satmeter as i think my problem is the dish - as i dont think im correctly aligned (only fitted the dish up around 6-7 days ago!)

You should also check all your connections from lnb to box.

i got mine working eventually, i went out and purchased a satmeter from maplins and it worked wonders.

took me 10minutes to get a perfect signal using it!

i now get 96%+ all the time.

worth investing in a satmeter there great little tools - good for incase the dish is knocked/blown out of place in the future!

btw i used a 80cm solid dish too and its perfect for the job!

Lad's if anybody can give me some info about using those satellite finders it would be great. Bought a 43cm dish and lnb from Maplins today along with their satellite finder. I'm currently getting 63% snr, same as you guys. It just won't move and like the first poster I'm aiming it I suppose in the general direction like my neighbours. Might be that I need to use this satellite finder but I'm a bit in the dark as to how to use it.

EDIT: turns out my coaxial cable was defective....replaced it and I'm up and running!!
