    Hi
    Can anyone help?

Is it possible to transfer video from a Sony camcorder (8mm Cassette) to my PC?
What sort of connection would I need from the camcorder to the PC and what software.

    Thanks in advance

all you need is a tuner card on your computer. There are external usb tuner cards (if you have a laptop etc) and there are internal tuner cards.
The internal cards are cheaper. For best quality/performance get a tuner card with built-in hardware mpeg2 encoders.

All you would do is connect the video/audio out of your camcorder to the video/audio in ports on the tuner card (usually RCA type plugs). On the tuner software you would select AV or composite and start your recording. The capture software usually comes with the tuner card.
For editing the mpeg2s use videoredotvsuite or womble mpeg video wizard dvd 4.0 (both of these softwares edit mpeg2's without reencoding so you won't loose quality)
