I didn't know which catagory I was in so I'll assume I was in the the last -

Therefore I won't suggest you use ASPI kill first and then put in a forced ASPI 1.8

Since I won't suggest that maybe the "special" pple who answer you will suggest it -

That's what I did earlier, sorry. I didnt update my post. So now I have all ASPI checking good, with version 4.71.2(1021).

But I'm still unable to burn.

    Help, I need somebody,
    Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

That's an allusion to the song "Help!" by the beatles. It's not meant to be exclusive. I'm sorry if it makes anyone feel unappreciated.

Lol, I was just having fun with Ya ~ ~>

Did you do a defrag ? It's very important -

Also, I have to ask, Is your IDE cable a 40-pin cable OR an 80-pin cable ?

    Pete :)

    1. I have not seen anyone post the "MEDIA" they are
    using yet
    2. CD-RW's can be hard to trash. Just re-format them.

    3. Are DVD files less than 3.36gb?

    ruroni,

It's time to try to burn another backup using Nero.

Let's not be stupid about it though, let's use a DVD RW so we don't waste a DVD.

Also as Buik so aptly brought up, we need to know what media you're working with, it's important and it needs to be addressed –

What discs are you using ?

We also need to know EXACTLY what size the DVD is before you begin to work with it.

Now for the backup you're going to do -

Use the guide from the following link - it's the 2nd guide about mid-page page for DVD Shrink and Nero -
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/105641

It's important that you start from the very beginning and not somewhere mid-point. Do everything that the guide tells you to do and do it in that order. Trying to be "smart" and by-passing something OR thinking, "I don't have to rip this, the files are still on my PC." Will just put everything down the crapper.

IF you are going to burn the files that are on your PC then do it with the proper tools.

When you posted that last log you were using Nero's Express. We should never be using that proggy. Let's use what we should be using from the very start, Nero's Burning ROM.

If you don't know how to use it well, then follow this guide EXACTLY –

"Uncle" ScubaPete's Step by Step, Let's burn with Nero 6 Guide -

First - Do not use Nero Wizard -
Please follow EXACTLY - I'm going to attempt to make this as easy and painless as I possibly can. To get to Nero Classic, follow the "bouncing ball". First, - lets go to Start, All Programs, then Nero, then Nero Ultra Edition and finally Nero Burning ROM.

When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the "New Compilation" window. Directly under the title "New Compilation" is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose "DVD". Directly under that click on the "DVD Video Icon." Then click "New" in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the "DVD Video" window. In the left screen, click "VIDEO_TS". In the "File Browser" screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the "Shift" key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left and release the mouse button. Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click "OK" and now, clear the room, stand up tall and shout out, "Burn Baby, BURN" ! One more time, let me hear you say it, "Who's your Daddy Now ???"
Guess what my Friend ? You are done !!!

(Wheeew, now I really need a cigarette)

NOW, STAND AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! !
Keep all fingers and toes away from Ms. Computer. Do not fold spindle or mutilate and never mess with the lady when she's working - it could be hazardous to your health, you understand -
Go and have your coffee, when Nero is done, she will let you know ;-))

If you don't get a successful backup then, when you post here, include the complete Nero Log so that we can see what went wrong and where it went wrong, OK ?

It's 2005 - let's start it off by getting you all squared away -

    Good luck,

    Pete, :)

    Hello,

my name is Kristof. I have the "could not perform end of disc-at-once" problem. The problem occurs somewhere in the midst (always at another timestamp) of trying to write an ISO to DVD. But it's not only the ISO, I've tried other movie files as well. Here are some questions being answered in the questionnaire set up by ScubaPete, I hope you can help me:

[bold]Have you tried checking your basics ?[/bold]
I'm not really sure of what you mean by this question, but I'm a rather experienced pc user so I would say.. yes.
[bold]Have you flashed your Firmware ?[/bold]
I upgraded my NEC ND-2500A to the latest available official firmware v1.07.
[bold]Do you have a working ASPI layer ?[/bold]
Latest ASPI = installed and working.
[bold]When was your last Disk Defrag ?[/bold]
Disk = been defragged 30 minutes ago.
    [bold]What is your burner's IDE location ?[/bold]
    secondary master
    [bold]What are your burner's Jumper settings ?[/bold]
I checked those at the time I installed my NEC, it is set to master
[bold]What type of media are you using ?[/bold]
8x DVD+R's of the brand Platinum
[bold]What programs are you using ?[/bold]
    the latest Nero 6.6.0.5
[bold]Exactly where are you and what are you doing when your error occurs ?[/bold]
I click the BURN button and let the machines do all the work... no other apps are running, no additional system resources are being used by any service
    [bold]What are your PC's specs ?[/bold]
    winXP SP2
    AMD Athlon 1800+
    512 DDR RAM
    Maxtor 20GB system disk
Maxtor 80GB data disk (this is the one containing the ISO I'm trying to burn)
    Hitachi 160GB external data disk
NEC ND-2500A, flashed with latest firmware v1.07
[bold]Do you have any Roxio products installed on your PC ?[/bold]
    none
[bold]Are you running in PIO or DMA transfer mode ?[/bold]
DMA is set for my dvd writer

You can find my nero log file at this address:
    http://members.lycos.nl/saartjeinistanbul/temp/Log.txt

Should any additional information be required, please contact me or reply to this post.
Thanks for helping me with this problem,
    have a nice day!

    Kristof

    Hi kristof, welcome to aD,

May I start by saying, that is a 4-star excellent post.! !

Now, you have done well in covering your "basics". Your settings are excellent, I see nothing at all wrong there.

As for your discs, here is the report on them - (some of it is in German)

    Allgemeine Daten:
    Anbieter: Platinum
    Bezeichnung: DVD+R
    Aufdruck: Platinum
    Verpackung: Jewel Case
    EAN-Code: 4027927000681
    UPC-Code: ohne
    Hersteller-Code: RICOHJPNR00
    Hersteller: Ricoh Company Limited
    Dye-Type: Unbekannt
    Datenkapazität: 4.70 GB
    Videokapazität: 120 Minuten (Standard Play)

The bottom line, stay with those discs, they are good. Made by Ricoh ( a company with a good rep and they are using a good dye / app.)

    Let's lQQk at your Log.
It seem that about time when your burner get's up to speed you get a SCSI error. It happened twice. I'm not that good BUT 1 thing jumps to mind right off.

    1. IMHO, you are burning at too fast a speed. Writting at 8X does create errors in and of itself. Reduce your write speed to 4X at the fastest. Should you have trouble there also, give 2.4X a try.

Let me know if that helps -

If it doesn't, then tell me, have you been able to burn VIDEO_TS folders ? How about encoding, do you have any difficulties when doing that ?

    Awaiting your reply,

    Pete

I am also struggling in trying to resolve a problem in buring to DVD.

I have followed all the advice given but am still no closer to getting to the bottom of it.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried checking your basics ?
    I would say.. yes.
Have you flashed your Firmware ?
    Yes
Do you have a working ASPI layer ?
I have followed the ASPICHLK guide which says the ASPI is properly installed and fully operational. One thing I have noticed is why I run a system info tool in nero when I go into ASPI tab at the bottom of the tab the ASPI installation is corrupted.
When was your last Disk Defrag ?
What is your burner's IDE location ?
    secondary master
What are your burner's Jumper settings ?
Not sure what this is ?
What type of media are you using ?
8x DVD+R's of the Infiniti professional brand
What programs are you using ?
the latest Nero 6.6.0.5, which I unistalled using the correct Nero removal tools and then installed again.
Exactly where are you and what are you doing when your error occurs ?
I click on burn and it appears to start the burn process then I receive an error message burn process failed at 4X (5,520 kb/s) in the event window the message could not perform end of disc at once is shown along with illegal disc.
Also this problem does not occur if I use DVD+RW’s, could it be that I cannot burn to no rewriteable discs. I have checked in the nero info tool that the dvd+r is ticked in the supported write features., so I didn’t think it would be this.
What are your PC's specs ?
    winXP SP2
    Intel R Pentium 4 2.8+
    512 DDR RAM
    40GB system disk
    Toshiba MK4025GAS
Do you have any Roxio products installed on your PC ?
    No
Are you running in PIO or DMA transfer mode ?
    DMA is shown

    Thanks

    Hi calonlan, welcome to aD,

In that case I would advise that you Download ASPI 1.8 In the download file you'll see "Kill ASPI", run that to clean out all current ASPI files THEN run Force ASPI and you s/b fine.

    http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

If your burner is newly iunstalled by yourself or a friend, it would concern the physical plastic jumpers covering the pins on the drive itself.

The discs you listed are "House Brands" meaning that they could be crap or not as someone bought them and put their own name on them. Download DVD Identifier and see exactly what they are -

    http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

it appears that I missed a very important question which I need the answer to:

What Guide or Guides are you using ?

When I asked what programs you were using, I need to know all of the programs dealing with DVD backups that you are using.

As you're only describing Nero's burning proggys, PLEASE be precise. Burning ROM or Express ?

Where did the files you're attempting to burn come from ?

    Pete

    Pete

Thanks for trying to help me out, but unfortunately I am still experiencing problems:

    Download ASPI 1.8
I download this file and followed the advice from the website about removing and then reinstalling the four files.
This seems to be successful as when I go into the setting in nero I am now told ASPI is installed and working properly.

    Jumper Settings
I have not touched the dvd since I purchased the machine so don’t think it can be this.

    DVD Media
I downloaded the file as suggest and read the comments regarding the disks, they seem to have an good rating in general.

    DVD Guides
I am using version 6 of Nero Express

Where did the files come from?
The files are the outputs from DVD shrink.

What is very frustrating about all this is I can write files to DVD +RW’s but not DVD+R.

Hope to here from you soon.

    Thanks once again.

    Calonlan

    I'm quiite sure they do . . . . Though I've no idea what "comments" you're refering too . . . Would you mind sharing ?

Thanks for telling us the proggys, would you mind telling us the Guides ?

Again, thanks for telling us the proggy I asked for before . . .

Where did the files come from BEFORE you gave them to DVD Shrink . . .

Not until you provide the information I've asked for . . .

    cheers,

    diogo,

Please go quickly into your post and remove your serial number from your Nero log. It's directly under your name.

The edit icon is at the top-right of your post

    Hi diogo,

It doesn't seem that too much at all is going on in your system.

For starters, you need to upgrade Nero to the current 6.6 version.

Next, you are running in the PIO transfer mode, not the DMA mode - we need to address that

Next, I don't much care for your choice of media and I don't think Nero much cares for it either. Let's change your media for a better quality. Try Ridata +R's, Verbatin DataLife Plus, Sony Maxell, Phillips, TDK, HP or TY's.

My Nero translation skills suck too so maybe you can tell me what type of DVD Video Recorder you're using and exactly how you're using it . . .

It seems to me that AFTER upgrading your Nero, you should go over all of your basics from the get-go, Refer to the directions earlier in this thread. Your problem is in the fact that Nero didn't even start to work for you. We need to upgrade Firmware, check your ASPI layer, change your transfer settings to DMA and probably Defrag your system to boot. Ll those things I covered earlier.

Now, AFTER you have done everything we just went over, try to do your burn again.

    Cheers,

    Pete

Now let's see if everything will work together the way we want it to, OK ?

Give it a test run and let us know how you make out -

    Hi Pete,

First of all, thanks for your reply.

    >>Your problem is in the fact that Nero didn't even start to work for you.
At "cd info" option, nero,i saw that the dvd contains all the data that i put in the compilation, the problem , i think, is that nero was unable to close the session (option Multisession = false).

(Before i have seen your reply i realized that my version was out of date so i updated...) So with the updated version , 6.0.0, i have found an option "Close", in "Cd info" , which close a started session . After closed , the driver can read the dvd with no problems.
Now i have just finished to burn a dvd , and no problem is just fine.

    Anyway, thanks for your advices.

    CONGRATS on your burning -

    BUT,

Your burner is still ooperating in the PIO mode instead of the DMA mode. You shiuld adress that as well as the media issue. If your burn is OK then your Firmware and ASPI is probably alright BUT you should check the Firmware every month as a matter of course.

As I said before - - Go to the basics and straighten that out - with just the transfer, your processing time will be cut in half.

    Cheers,

    Pete

PS. Checkout Nero's settings and select the option that has Nero check for new updates everytime you run the proggy so you won't be running older versions.

Relax "Chuckie", put down the axe and the carving knife -

I'm sending out a destress call to a friend who is a "Top Maahoff" over at Ahead and he'll get you sorted out -

    BUT FIRST,

I have just been informed that Nero has com e out with a new version, at least a lot, lot newer than you've got, Download that and I'll ask Craig to stop by and get you going . . .

    Cheers,

    Pete
