Hello...just got myself a DVD-R/W. In addition to backing up copies ov my DVDs, I would also like to use it in a similar manner that I did with a CD-R/W. With a CD-R/W I could select a file and copy it to the CD. I am unable to do this with my DVD-R/W. On ocassion I would like to use it just like a rgular hard drive. Is this possible? If so, please gve me some direction. Thank you.

Yes it possible. You just need a burning program like Nero or Roxio.

Thanks. I have Nero 6.6 Ultra and do not see a "Format/Prepare rewriteable disk" option which will allow me to use a DVD/RW like a hard disk. The doc says it's available, however, I have used both the Standard and Advanced interfaces and do not see it. I'm stumped, can you or anyone help? Thanks in advance.

To do what you want you will probably need Update-Package 3. That is the InCD packet writing software.
    http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php

Also get any other packages you need to update your software.

Note: Packet writing software can sometimes cause problems for backing up DVD-Video disc's. It will depend on your system. Some people have no trouble using it, while other people will have nothing but problems when trying to backup their DVD's.

If it causes a problem for you, then you will have to decide what is more important. If backing up your DVD's is more important then you will have to uninstall InCD.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I have seen a number of poss statig that INCD causes havoc. I'll at least give it a try and deinstall if I have problems. Thanks again.

You don't need InCD4 to make a data disc. You can use either Burning Rom or Express.

Use Nero SmartStart. Choose dvd then data.

That is not burning a data DVD.
That is packet writing a DVD. InCD.
