It's hard to tell those 2, so why don't you scan them again and post up a png or jpeg picture from both.

Here is what you're mainly looking for. Below is a backup of mine (16X Verbatim DVD+R "Advanced Azo"), I just burned it today.

will do another test and post pictures. From the test I orginally posted
the first is a Verbatim 8x DVD-R and the second Optical Storage DVD-R, latter meant to be very bad. I wanted to check whether the test would show it. btw which one is the quality score?

Look at picture for PI Failures and Quality Score.

Just did a test on a 8x Ricoh DVD-R (expensive and supposedly good, made in Taiwan though), tested at maximum speed (16x) and got 95 quality score and 9 failures. I am a bit disappointed. The dvds that I test all have different things written on them some are DVD-video, some data-DVD, hope this doesnt affect the test.

p.s. I seem to get a lot more failures when testing at lower speeds?!

I've never used Ricoh or Ritek before, but I think they're decent media. However, in my opinion Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (made in japan) are the best. Nearly all my Maxell scans are on par with the famous Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim, with only 2 or 3 on PI Failures and a Quality Score of 95 (same with my Yuden and Verbatim backups).

I think the best way to get the precise results is to scan at the speed when you burned them on. For example: I scanned my 16X Verbatim DVD+R "Advanced Azo" at 4X because I burned it on 4X speed.

Why would my START button be grayed out? I was able to perform all the Benchmark tests just fine..

Seriously, I don't know. However, if you're able to perform Benchmark, Scandisc, etc. then you should be able to scan/perform any task in there. My suggestion would be to Exit out, and start Nero CD-DVD Speed again to try if you'll be able to start the scan this time. If that failed to do so, then it's worth to "uninstall" Nero (I recommend using Nero's General Clean Tool - to completely wipe out Nero) and do a fresh "reinstall" over.
