OK I have Cold Mountain as an AVI file; its a DVDRip xVid file. When i open it with quicktime, i get the following: "Some necessary quicktime software is missing..." The video play perfectly fine in Quicktime, but I get no sound. I've had avi files of movies work fine before, this is the first one ive had problems with. When I go to the website that it suggests, it just has a list of different plugins to download. Do i need one of these or is it a problem with my file? Here is the link they give me http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html

try getting wmp X if you dont have it, that normally solves my problem with some random xvid or divx not playing sound, silly people encode with wmp codecs.

that is strange.. try it with the vlc.. see what that does..

you can get some RW blank dvds and see if its going to burn correctly

or you could try ffmpegx which i believe should convert from avi to mpeg.

    http://homepage.mac.com/major4/index.html

there are tutorials on there to help with conversion

Unzip it and drop "AC3 Codec.component" in Macintosh HD/Library/QuickTime
