What kinda processor is the fastest for DVD-RB

    Thanks! That should be a good reference point for anyone to get an idea as to how fast the new Intel's can run. I'm guessing that you're running CCE? If only we could get an encoder that natively runs 4 threads at once to test out your Quad core, now that would be something. Some of the other encoders allow you to run four at once using the Multiple encoder feature, but most of those are usually slower than two threads of CCE. With a little over clocking you should be able to shave off a few more minutes.

    No problem, and yup, it's CCE SP2. Just used CCE for Blade Runner The Final Cut from the new Ultimate Collector's Edition, this disc only took 35mins, looking forward to watching it later; anyway, now trying Hank's Encoder on LOTR2 for another test..

    It'll be a while before i get around to any overclocking, i'm rarely at home these days long enough to mess with settings..

    if your looking at the screen shot you just posted. look in the advanced(expert)setting. click on it and at the bottom it will tell you how many passes. if you havent changed it i think its set as 2 passes as default.

    if so that is great time on this.

    Interesting results guys, but to be fair everyone should be using the exact same DVD. [bold]Some of us selected LOR II[/bold] years ago because other than changing the number of passes on the encoder there is little else that can be done to skew the results.

    Different movies on DVD are not all equal, because in the end the speed results are measured by the total number of frames being re-encoded, and of course ones rigs processing speed.

    I'll drop an encode over the next couple of days or so, I'm just waiting on a new board.

    i dont have a original copy of LOTR 2. if its 2 disc like the one im looking at. will dvd-rebuilder join both disc. or do you have to do it like LOCO did and join them with dvdshrink?

    ive seen it in walmart as a 2 disc set. i didnt really look closely at it was the second disc bonus features?

    All of my LOTR discs are the two disc extended editions. I have all the Potter movies too and they are fairly large and on one disc though. Really I was just trying to set a baseline for me personally.

    The title of the thread suggested a very interesting premise regarding encode speeds. Of course their are different encoders that have certain advantage and disadvantages regarding speeds. For instance using RB's multi processor feature some encoders will run on quad core processors. Although CCE will only run on two it is quite fast in comparison to other encoders. The point I was making is that an apples to apples test is the only way to measure the differences between processor encoding speeds.


    No harm in that but it does make it difficult to answer the essential point of the question:
