ok, i'm so new to all of this. so please bare with me. i'm not sure if i'm even in the right area. here goes... after i rip and burn movies,(even older movies) and try to play them in my home dvd player they freeze up. I might can get half way through it and then it starts. i just made a copy of my sisters movie point break, it played for awhile and then just started to freeze in places. i used dvd decrypter and dvd shrink to rip and burn the movie. i even just used dvd shrink. same thing it freezes up. seems like every movie i make a copy of latly does this. this is the first time ive had any problems when making a copy of my movies. could there be something wrong with my burner? i went to another brand of dvds too. i had no problems before using the brand i was using until recently. so i switched to see if that was it. nope still does it. movies ive copied in the past like (star wars 3) was the last one did just fine. played all the way through and looked great. now they all are feezing. if you have any ideas that i might can try please pass along. im open to any suggestion.

    thanks,

i went from memorex dvd+r to maxwell dvd+r. i have never had any problems before with backing up my movies using this media. here latly it seems to be any movie i try to back up. even old ones like urban cowboy and con air. ive even tried burning slower than i use to. i burn at 4x now. just not sure whats going on with it. ive defrag and cleaned for spyware and ran a virus check just to make sure. just wierd, never had any problems and then bam ive them all now.

i think i found my problem...it was the dvd printed lables i had on the disc. i took off one lable on a movie that was freezing up and it played all the way through with no problems. only thing is i have printed out all these lables for my movies and now i cant use them. is there any type of lable that i can get that is good for printing on with a reg printer. lexmark x75 printer. i dont like my movies looking all naked and all...if anybody knows of any please send the info to me. thanks for your help...

did this start when you changed media types? Maxell is not a highly regarded brand, but that said... neither is Memorex (although I've had great success witht them. Now, have you tried these a different player? I know that our dvd player at work just simply refuses to play TDK brand media. It does what you said... skip, freeze ect... I suggest first try to play your problem disks on another player. Try a different type of media. You are doing the correct thing by burning at a slower speed, but if you have 16x blank media the perfect burn speed is 8x (half the rated speed). On another note, make sure your firmware is up to date for you burner and make sure you don't multi-task. Try this and let me know. Good luck!

*edit* yes, those label destroy discs, if you want labels on your discs there are brands of media and printers designed to do this directly onto disc.

See here for a recent thread discussing this...

thanks for your help. im going to look into the printer and the media for the labels. the dvds just look to naked without a label on it. also where can i find some info on updating my firmware for my drive? is it easy to update or do you have to be advance in computers to do it.

    thanks again,

if you use dvd decrypter you can go to tools, drive, check for firmware and it will look automatically. you can also go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and select your drive, the latest firmware and update it. Remember to follow the instructions and you should be fine.

taz1974 , I would stay away from labels completely. I personaly use a sharpie - my brother-in-law uses a cd printer from Office Max($100)looks better than a sharpie and the ink last quite awhile.
