Im not new at burning movies and normally I have no problems , i rip the files , crack em and burn em or whatever but half the time when i download stuff , for example I just got 4.5 gigs of video files , VOB IFO AND BUP files in a video_ts folder ..it looks fine like a normal rip so i burnt it and it says this disc lacks a playback function when i try to watch it. i made it into an image everything went like it was supposed to , i even tried reripping it to see if there was region protection on it and nothing .. so whats the deal? can i fix this? when I reripped it i authored it and just burnt the movie itself and still it wont play.
Hi chipstack well i am fairly new to this but i have a lot of good burns. Depends on where you are getting your vob files from. I usually use DVD decrypter if the disc is encoded,if not just use dvd shrink and shrink the file to about 3.7 gb's. I sometimes find any larger and they wont burn or play. Also if you just have bare bones AVI video files then you will have to use Nero vision express or similar to actually make a movie into VOB files and then burn it with your own writing software. Don't know if this helps much mate but good luck Grouty
No, no, no! Forget that. Play back problems are usually caused by one of these, the most common problems being towards the top of this list: 1. Bad media. Read my sig on media. 2. Not booktyping/bitsetting regular, single-layer, 4.7 Gb DVD+Rs. DVD+R DL (8.5 Gb) discs usually get booktyped automatically, but few drives booktype the 4.7 Gb discs without a hacked firmware AND software that understands booktyping. DVD-R discs do not have booktyping, so no headaches. (Note that you should NOT use DVD-R DL discs though.) 3. Failing to burn as a Video-DVD. Having a VIDEO_TS folder and the appropriate VOB, IFO, and BUP files is not enough; you need to burn with a software that understands how to write Video DVDs. Nero and CloneDVD2 do, but lots of software does not. Files have to be placed in specific spots on the disc, and software that does not understand DVD-Video will cause problems. Most burning software defaults to burning as a DVD-ROM, which won't work.
Okay, I got a question. When I rip a dvd I get the movie but instead of just getting the movie I get the directors overdub comments along with it. How do I stop this from happening? Also when I check my log during the recording I no longer get layer break successful like I used to, why?
@newbe1 Since you are asking something different then what this thread is about....Start a new thread, don't hijack this one.
Well i hope this isnt hijacking but ne ways O.K. I have Nero...DVD shrink and decrypter ..If I have a downloded movie and burn it to Dvd it wont play in a dvd player unless i make " a dvd movie " but then i can only burn about 1hr and a half of video 4 frames a second ...If i use nero rom burning i can burn like 10x that hmm can i get some help... doesnt have to be too d-tailed.. Sort of same topic
what type of file have you downloaded? If you have downloaded an .avi file, I suggest using a program avi2dvd to change the files to the proper type to create a dvd. You must create dvd files or you won't have much luck playing on a stand alone dvd player. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your drive and you are not multi-tasking when you burn. I wouod like to know more about your system... ram, burner provessor speed ect. Have you had these same problems backing up dvd's or is it just with downloaded movies ect ect.
ok. yeah i do multi task sometimes while im burning..thought that might be a problem..next my system is a follows... i have an amd 64 processor 3500 +...160 g hard drive. dvd +- writer/ cd writer...i believe its a tsst corp cd/dvd writer ts-h552l. I can burn data files on Nero using the create your own dvd option but it takes forever. it also takes up a lot of space(disc space) where i can only put about 1.5 hours on a dvd.
i am not sure if i have the latest firmware and im not really sure how to get it or install it or find out if i have it? the files i qm having a hard time with knowing what they are(sounds pretty dumb i guess) plays with a divx decoder filter
Then they are AVIs. Nero Vision is apparently converting them to DVD. You can go into the Configuration (under More->Video Options->DVD-Video screen and select something other than "Automatic" to extend the amount of time you will get on your DVD. HOWEVER, there will always be a trade-off between quality and the space used by the DVD. Typically, use the "Custom" selection and 704x480 resolution (or 704x576 if you're in a country that uses PAL) with a bitrate of about 5000 kbps. This should do well. Most importantly, set the audio to AC-3 or MP3, NOT LPCM, which will free up mucho disc space. The whole idea being is that you don't want to degrade the quality of your source material anymore than it already has. Alternatively, you can get a Divx-capable DVD player like one of the Philips and watch the AVI files directly, without having to convert. You'd just burn them to disc with Nero Burning Rom as a DVD-ROM (data) compliation. This may be a worthwhile consideration if you'll be viewing lots of Divx/xvid material.
Hi roseparkg. as i said i am a bit new to this myself but although everyone poo poos my reply i had the same problem. Now my system is virtually the same as yours and i use Nero vision express not nero burning rom to convert the AVI files to vob files. First click on more at the bottom of the screen and go to default settings and then click on dvd video and my settings are aspect ratio automatic , quality automatic and format automatic. I dont use custom settings. open nero vision express and click on make a dvd not make a movie and then add tha avi files . You can then change some of the settings to the page which you will see when you play the dvd in your dvd player but then just click next and i burn to my hard drive and then use my DVD writer software which came with my system to burn the vob files which you have saved on your hard drive. If the files are too big you can still shrink them from there to the right size using DVD shrink.I also burn at the slowest speed possible even though i use Taiyo yuden discs i burn at 4x. Hey i even made an instruction guide for my friend which i could send to you.Just let me know if you want it if at all i am allowed to do that on here. Not sure as i am a newbie?
thanx guys sure ill take the guide just for some reference.. I got convertxtodvd and im testing it right now to c if this works too.. ill post the results ... evryone in here is pretty cool about helping.. ill definetly remember that in the future if i can offer any assistance to people with q's
NEROVISION EXPRESS Install Nero vision express and open by going to START, ALL PROGRAMS, NERO, NERO DIGITAL and then NERO VISION EXPRESS. Click on MAKE DVD and then on DVD VIDEO. Click on ADD VIDEO FILES and find the AVI files you want to burn. Highlight the film you want and click on OPEN. Your file will be added to the project. Click on NEXT and then click on the BACKGROUND and a window should open on the right where you can change all of the settings. Click on LAYOUT. I usually go for layout 1. Click on the BACKGROUND tab next and click on the SMALL BOX on the left. There are three up the top. You can then add a background colour. I usually go for black. Now click on BUTTONS and I use the one at the top. NO FRAME. If there is already text on the screen you can click on HEADER and then delete it or write a title of your own. What I usually do is delete the text and then Click on the PICTURE on the screen and this will open a box called BUTTON PROPERTIES. Here you can drag the slider along until you find the actual title of the film as they usually have them. Now go back to the settings window and Click on AUTOMIZATION. Click on ACTION then click on the FILM title and cut the DELAY down to about 3 SECONDS. Click on NEXT and your title should play as it will be on the DVD. Click on NEXT again and you will be taken to the BURN OPTIONS screen. If a screen appears about NTSC and PAL it is up to you. Depends on which region you use.I keep the DVD as PAL. Now I always click on the WRITE TO HARD DISK FOLDER option as you can see if it records ok but also I use the VOB FILES which is the FORMAT that Nero vision express turns them in to and use my DVD WRITING SOFTWARE to write the disc. Ok Click on WRITE and a screen will come up stating how long it will take and you can also see a preview of the film being made. When this is finished you will have a folder on your desktop called VIDEO TS. What I now do is open my own DVD software and click on VIDEO, DVD VIDEO and then a screen opens with two windows. In my top window I go and find the VOB FILES in the VIDEO TS folder and CLICK on it and it opens up where you can see all of the VOB FILES. HIGHLIGHT all of the files by holding down your LEFT mouse button and DRAGGING over all of them. When you have done this and the files are all blue just DRAG them into the bottom window. Now you should just be able to CLICK on BURN or WRITE DVD, whatever your software say’s and it will make the disc.
That's the wrong way to do it. Why convert at the wrong bitrate in the first place... and then go to DVDShrink and redo it again? Choose the correct bitrate in Nero and encode once. NVE is meant to be a one-stop total solution. There are many features in NVE and many guides (including the ones at Ahead's site) that explain all the things that NVE can do. It is important to totally familiarize yourself with a program before offering advice on how to use it. Explaining how to properly use NVE takes more than just one rambling paragraph.
OK MYSTICE dont just talk, tell us how to choose the correct bitrate in NERO VISION EXPRESS.So many people say they know how to work all of this software, then prove it. Give us some walkthroughs and diagrams which us NEWBIES can understand. Now thats what i am talking about.I tried once again to help another NEWBIE who had a problem and i gave them advice on how I, i must stress I, worked around the problem.Yes the methods i use are are a little long winded but they do the job. I burn DVD after DVD with no problems using DVD SHRINK, DVD DECRYPTER and NERO VISION EXPRESS that i have lost count. The help i gave was not a rambling paragraph as you say, i have probably burnt more discs than you have hot dinners but i prefer to keep my self to myself and not help anybody but i thought i might just give it a go. You know if you do, help a fellow friend in need you don't need people watching over you all of the time in case you make a mistake. Oh sh-- reminds me of school days,oh dear. Pleeeeese reply
Don't cop an attitude, Grouty. I had given you that information already, long before MysticE got into this picture, with step by step instructions how to get into the video configuration screen and what to put in for settings. As for double-encoding/transcoding, MysticE's right. Use the right settings the first time. Transcoding/re-encdoing once is bad enough for quality, let alone two or more times. Remember, you may have to experiment with the settings a little. I do not know what your material is or how long it is, and I suspect MysticE doesn't either, so none of us can give you exact numbers. With Nero, you can also use some of the presets e.g. Extra Long Play, High Quality, etc. and they'll give you standard, fixed resolutions and bitrate settings. Once you know those you can use the CUSTOM selection and tweak the bitrate to maximize quality for the amount of disc space you have. It's all about keeping the compilation size within 4.38 Gb.
It seems recently that alot of newer people around here have come in with a rather large attitude... and get upset anytime you try to correct them, or lead someone on a different path than they would like to take them.
