    Well that's it, some 500s are sub £60 now, but with delivery, they're not far from £70. Delivered, all my 500s have worked out around the £75 mark!
    This doesn't surprise me a bit though, since the 1000GB models have been steadily falling for quite some time now, I remember when they first came out and were over £200, you can have change from £140 for some now...

    So far so good. ConvertXtoDVD took 28 minutes and DVD Shrink full disc 7600MB with deep analysis and max smooth took 13 minutes. I need a game to play now. Maybe look at OC'ing in the next week or two after the "new" wears off.

    So you finished building then, nice. Mine's well and truly bedded in but i'm not going to overclock mine, no need; but keep us posted on your results young man, be interesting to see how you get on; I'm happy enough being able to run DVD Rebuilder alongside ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Flick, all at the same time

    Not so fast batman....er, I mean pacman. Now my D: drive has disappeared into thin air and it was working (as in I was able to browse and access/use files that were contained on the drive) just five minutes ago. I had zipped up a file and was sending it via email and the PC locked up and upon reboot the drive was gone, reboot again and it's still missing...but it shows on the boot screen. So what do I do now? This drive came out of my old PC and was setup as a storage drive. Also, I'm showing a choice of two XP's to boot from, but my keyboard isn't recognized until windows boots. I think I may have installed XP on both partitions of my small drive somehow. How do I remove it from the small partition of 15 gigs that was reserved for quick recover or do I even need that?

    Firstly, check the cables to the drive. If they're all tight and it still causes grief you might have a dodgy drive.
    Was it used in a PC you played games with? It may have been infected with StarForce, in which case you can try flashing the firmware on it, but in reality it's probably a goner.

    I've through the cables and everything looks good and I didn't play games on the old PC. In all honesty I think there is something going on with the new rig and I just need to put my finger on it.

    You should be able to boot into the partition you want to use XP in and then format the small backup partition where the other OS is located.

    Now for a little testing using the applications that I most often used with my old machine.

    ConvertXtoDVD
    Conversion completed in 00:21:51....the new rig reduced this time by about an hour. It used to take 1.25 - 2.0 hours on the old machine.

    DVD Flick

    DVD Flick was typically 20-45 minutes slower than ConvertXtoDVD on the old machine, but the Q6600 get the normal job done in a respectable time and comprible to ConvertX at 35 minutes.

    Hope you're gearing up to try my usual test young man - DVD Rebuilder alongside ConvertXtoDVD and DVD Flick, all at the same time. I don't bother with timing them running together (though they run no slower), it's gotta be almost time to see what that baby's capable of :)

    ps My Flick times are always longer as i only use Flick for 2part movie merges

    theres just to many threads for me to try and follow...lol but since lOCO linked to this one and its some pretty good reading. think i will try creakys test. and run dvd-rebuild and convertxtodvd at the same time. ive only tried dvdflick once a while back and dont know anything about it.. as of yet.

    I use Opera mainly and Firefox too, so i can keep 100's of tabs open, and i still can't keep up with enough threads; i'm on 2 pc's at the moment and i still can't keep up !.Admittedly the other pc is on for non-AD duties; Flick is good, it does the job. As i say i like running all 3 encoding programs together, i like to make the Quad Core earn it's keep :)

    id sya haven the Quad you would need to do 3-4-5 proggies like that to get its use out of it.

    seeing im on my new build and dont have much on here yet(as far as movies) i tried to pull the files i wantedto burn from the other puter in network and it sucks trying to pul from that drive to this one here.. takes forever. plus hte one im pulling from is a 8mb cache slow joe there..lol

    im gonna get the stuff on this puter so i can play around with multiple programs like this
