I was going over NickIt's Players thread and I felt the need to update the list of players. I've included some players that are still to be released but these are the ones where the specs have been announced (Denon, Marantz, Panny BD50). I'd appreciate input from the other enthusiasts here especially if you see any errors or omissions. I've listed the models according to brand and I'll try to update the specs and add new models as the specs and street dates are announced.

    Great list eatsushi - thanks.

One comment though. I thought the Sony BDP-S500 could do DTS-HD MA bitstream but apparently not. I'll double check if you don't mind.

Hopefully you can keep updating this list as the new players and specs are announced. I vote to have this thread stickied.

That external storage port on both models sounds interesting. Does that mean you can plug in a USB flash drive and download more online content?

    Great list BTW. Thanks!

Due to the confusion regarding player profiles and "evolving" (???) specs in the new Sony player news thread I think we should incorporate an explanation/FAQ in this thread.

Awesome list eatsushi, however just one little comment...

The "Analog Out Channels" are listed as 7.1, 5.1 or none. I am being pedantic here but wouldn't it be more accurate to put at least 2 channel analog audio output? I am sure all players include at least stereo analog output. :-D

I think eatsushi's designation of analog out refers to multichannel capabilities particularly with respect to movie soundtrack transmission. This is important information for me since I don't have an HDMI audio setup this time and I use 5.1 analogs on my Rotel preamp/processor.

The PS3 does have 2-channel analog outs but this is irrelevant when you want true multichannel movie soundtracks.

The Denon 2500 actually DOES NOT even have 2-channel analog outs. It's purely a "transport" with both video and audio transmitted thru an HDMI output:

Yes, I assumed that was the case. I thought that they all had at least 2 channel analog output but as you just pointed out some players don't have analog output at all, while some offer the basic 2 channel output. Well, at this point it's only one in each of the aforementioned categories (Denon 2500BT & PS3). You are completely right that most Blu-ray consumers probably couldn't care less about 2 channel analog output. I know I don't as I also have an AV receiver set-up (6.2 channel). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to list that information here. The more information, the better.

PS: Thank you for the pic of the Denon 2500BT dblbogey7, but it's quite big and it's making the page wider than normal. Is there any way you can make it smaller? :-D

    You are correct my friend.

The information on analog outs is essentially for those with non-HDMI audio equipment who want to take advantage of multichannel uncompressed or lossless soundtracks on the discs. Stereo analog outs just seems irrelevant to a discussion of movie soundtracks.

As I said, I was just being pedantic. I assumed that you meant multi-channel outs to cater for the PCM, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD etc. but I felt sorry for the poor PS3 who didn't even get it's 2 channels mentioned! lol... Once again, thanks for the effort in this fantastic thread.

Update: I added the Pioneer BDP-05FD to the list since some specs have been announced. ETA is Spring 2008.

I don't know if I want to add this BluRay player from Goldmund of Switzerland. It sells for a cool $17,000 and is obviously for those ultra high-end custom installations.

The Samsung BDP-UP550 dual format player has been cancelled.

Samsung will concentrate on developing its BluRay line instead.

Yes, I would like to know if they are referring to bitstream DTS-HD MA or on board decoding... ?

Anyway, I think your PS3 update is a little overdue. :p

PS3 firmware v2.20 now makes the BD profile v2.0 (BD-Live), as I am sure you are well aware of. :-D

Updated the Profile and Firmware data for the PS3.

The DTS-HD MA can only be decoded onboard the PS3. The HDMI transmitter chip on the PS3 cannot send the bitstream data to a decoding receiver as it is an older version - the Si9132. You need the Si9134 transmitter chip to pass Dolby True HD and DTS-HD MA bitstream. DTS-HD MA will be decoded in the console and passed as LPCM to the reciever via HDMI.

Added: The update will be available for download on April 15th:
