Thanks for the prompt response Are you in Ireland? Yes (with UPsee) Do you know how to flash the box? Not yet Do you have the necessary software? Not yet Do you have the cable required including the USB to Serial if your PC does not have a serial port? Not yet Hence I need the Dummies guide Thanks
Ok, first you are going to need to gather the tools Go to Eamo's Library (the link is in my Sig) ;-) Go to the Replay Software folder & download STBLink v5.20 (Needed to communicate with the box via the PC). Go to the Replay Firmware folder & download ReplayLite-28122008.zip (This is the actual firmware you will eventually flash to the box using STBLink). Now you have all the Software/Firmware needed to upgrade the box. So that leaves the hardware, You need to find out if your PC or Laptop has a 9 Pin male serial port. If it does you will need to borrow or purchase a 9 pin Female to 9 pin Female NULL Modem serial cable Maplin Part Number: L71BT If you don't have this port available you will also need to get a USB to Serial 9 pin male adapter Maplin part number ZP43W You can source these item(s)anywhere you like, I'm just providing links so as you know what to get (they are available cheaper on the Internet). Once you have the required tools, come back to us and someone will guide you through the upgrade process. -
i have just been asked to try and fix my friends replay lite box but when i plug it in i am on a screen that has on it - channel manager, program guide, timer, user installation, utility. I am badly stuck dont know what to do next I have been reading other posts they all seem to say go to parental controls but I cant find this please help me heads melting. Thank you. lfc4me.
if you are trying to flash the new firmware, you dont need to go to the parental control option, you just plug the null modem cable between the computer and the box, and you work from there.. if you are trying to manually input the codes you need to go to the parental control. to do this press menu, goto user installation and to the right is a new sub menu including parental lock. open it, press the red button, goto nagra change the prov id to your own (dublin enteehell is ox55) and then input the codes. you cannot ask for the c*des here
Thanks for the reply Wheelo I am not looking for codes my friend gave me his box to try fix when i plugged it in, its on the above menu I put the codes in the nagra, exit out and i am still only on this screen cant exit to try and view channels seems stuck.lfc4me.
go to this page http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/7/502990 look for pc2000's post, it should tell you everything you need to flash. if this is what you are trying to do then your problem should be solved. it sounds like you have no channels, have you tried a manual scan? or you could dawnload a channel dump, if you find one of noely f's posts look under "eamos library" in his sig. hope this helps, of not try say what exactly you are trying to achieve, where you are, if you have the null modem cable, if you give all the info someone will be able to help you here, i know that from experience. if i can be of more help i will. wheelo
Wheelo thanks for your help, the link you directed me to helped no end THANK YOU up and running again.lfc4me
Hi gman496, Thanks for the last reply. I've downloaded the software and have the necessary hardware now. Can advise next steps to upgrade. Thanks in advance
How To Upgrade (Flash) Replay Lite: (NTL Ireland) Connect the null modem lead to the box and your PC. Open up the Stblink Untick “Maintain User Data” Click the Upgrade software button. Browse to the new firmware file on your PC. From when you start to see the blocks transfer, it takes 4 Mins Approx for the box to be updated. But make sure you see the led flashing much more quickly than it did when the blocks were transferring. If you leave for even 5 mins it will be OK. Unplug everything and head for the TV. Connect the power lead only. Wait for the led to flash red/green and then stay on green. If it does not turn green pretty quick, use the remote to turn it on. Then connect SCART and TV cables. You might have to unplug the box again and then power it up for a second time. Now: Do a full scan. (Should only take 5 Min Approx) Menu User Installation Auto Search Start Frequency: 290 End Frequency: 403 Symbol Rate: 6887 (If not available, type it in manually) Constellation: 64 QAM Search by Network: On Search When all available channels are found select the “View” button. Goto a premium channel and wait for the box to unscramble. “Be patient, it may take a few minutes. -
Hi All Does anyone know if this will flash from a lap top? http://www.cables2u.co.uk/rs232-serial-port-pi-408.html I assume u put the above in usb port and then connect it to the null modem cable. Is that right? Any help will be appreciated.
That should work OK, I've used a USB to Serial converter to download from a laptop to various box types.
You will need to install a driver for that but it should come with it. I don't see any mention of it in the product description though so it might be wise to ask them? -
Thanks for the info, i have asked if you get the cd for the drivers to install or is it just plug and use. Got the rs232 but my old pc went down so now i need a usb to serial converter and these are next day delivery for under £2 (bargain!!) Just hope it works.
Thanks for the replies. Still no joy. Did a firmware upgrade (v910) & have ran auto search & found all channels. Have left on a premium channel but no luck in unscrambling. Just a black screen, with "NA:Scrambled!" flashing in the top corner. Provider ID is set at 0x5F. Anybody know if this is correct for Core-us in Swords? Any other suggestions? Tks
Hi Got a reply Gman and they come with a cd those usb to serial converters also they said it should be just plug in and go as it is compatible with vista, gonna order one and give it a go!! Let you know how i get on
Vista has quite a large bank of pre installed drivers compared to XP so you may well be plug & play if your OS is Vista. Those drivers will definitely be needed for XP so make sure to keep the driver disc safe just in case. -
grainneog, have a look at the closed thread below for posts from me and the replies from others. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232/502990 I downloaded firmare to a Reply a few months back and had trouble with the NA:Scrambled. I could see a list of the channels and access the EPG. I couldn't acces the current key and nagra options to switch on Auto Update in the menu but with the help of the good folks on this site I got it sorted in the end.
Hi,i live in north dublin, done autoscan but cannot get channel 5 or sci fi ( but got sci fi/horror ) any help for manual scan numbers and how to do it, thanks
9.10 is not the latest firmware. You need to download 28122008 from eamo's library. It will still say 9.10 on your replay lite, but is an upgraded version since the last firmware update.
