Merrill Lynch: T-Mobile USA to get iPhone next week

Merrill Lynch: T-Mobile USA to get iPhone next week Investment bank Merrill Lynch has fueled the rumor fire today, claiming T-Mobile USA will get the iPhone next week during analysts day on Friday.
In his note to clients, analyst Scott Craig says "speculation is heightening" that parent company Deutsche Telecom (DT) will make the announcement sooner rather than later.

The news would come as a surprise, especially just two weeks after T-Mobile's COO claimed the "economies had to be right" before the carrier could ever have the Apple flagship.

T-Mobile USA has been working diligently to expand its iPhone-compatible HSPA+ network to new markets and it is now available in 10 metro areas covering under half of the carrier's 33 million customers. The company has said 1.5 million users are currently running unlocked iPhones on their networks.

If it were to happen, iPhones would be available to 75 percent of all American mobile users, and 98 percent of post-paid subscribers.

I hope this was a apple move and not T-Mobile. I will be interested to see if they have all the same requirements on display as the other carriers.

This would have been big news a year and a half ago. But since Samsung stepped up with the Galaxy line, I laugh at the iPhone.

Might actually be true this time. My store has already received cases for the iPhone 5. T-Mobile desperately needs the thing if only to help slow down churn.

Too little, too late. That I agree with you! T-Mobile is too late to jump on Apple's bandwagon, with Verizon/AT&T getting most of the subscribers. If they provide unlimited 4G data, then that might entice some customers, but most will stay where they are, and yes the Galaxy line rules bought the Galaxy Note 2 last weekend, and have had nothing but praises for it. Have thrown just about everything on that it can handle and it keeps going without letup! I would take a Samsung phone over an iPhone any day!!
