Samsung's 5-inch 1080p SuperAMOLED display confirmed

Samsung has confirmed their 5-inch 1080p SuperAMOLED display.

The screen will have 440 PPI, and will keep the company current with other manufacturers that have released similar displays, including Motorola and HTC.

Compared to previous models, the new sAMOLED has 25 percent power savings, and can see up to 47 percent power savings in "low power mode."

The display has long been rumored for the upcoming Galaxy S IV, which is expected to be unveiled in March.

Mass production on the 5-inch display is expected by the end of this quarter, reads a CES slide.

Yay, just what the world needs is 1080p on a phone screen, yay!...
All you crazies out there, 720p is all you need on anything smaller than 42" I went out of my way to get a top of the line 13" ultrabook that had 720p because 1080p is just ridiculous.

And now my next phone will be a higher resolution than that. And on anything 15" or bigger 1080P is definitely noticeable. But it's not just the resolution as well that makes these next gen screens so advanced.

You went out of your way to get a worse device? Did you pay a premium too for such a "luxury"?

Sad that a staff member is possibly not a power user or just does not get it... Sony i7 with 8gb ram for 1200.00 with a little over 720p resolution or a acer ultrabook with 1080p for 1700.00 with only 4gb of ram with no ability to upgrade ram... I will take more ram over screen resolution 100% of the time on any device, android or windows. I care more about multitasking than trying to press a tiny icon on the screen and hoping my fingers are small enough to hit that little button on 1080p. Why should I adjust icon sizes and fonts to compensate for that resolution. Plus my 720p will laptop will always be faster than a similar speced 1080p device. On a TV 1080p is fantastic, not on mobile devices, my note 2 looks fantastic and even 720p is overkill on it.

I have a 1080p monitor at home and no adjustment is needed. A higher resolution screen will result in sharper images, including icons and text, not smaller ones. Unless you're running Windows 95 or earlier. :)

I also have a Galaxy Note 2, coming from an iPhone 4s. In terms of overall sharpness the iPhone is definitely superior. If you find solace in saving money for a "useless" screen more power to you; to each, their own.
