I am in the process of converting my VHS tapes to DVD. I created a DVD+R with the converted video, and the .VOB files show up in Windows Explorer.

The DVD+R plays fine on a cheap, older Phillips DVD player, but the Sony BDP-S185 Bluray player does not recognize the disc. The player is listed as being DVD+R compatible.

I burned the disc using the VHS to DVD software (Honestech VHS to DVD Deluxe 5.0, and with CDBurnerXP, but both attempts failed).

Is there any way to burn the DVD+R so that it could playback on the Sony Bluray player?

    Thanks.

It played on the old machine, so it didn't fail.

You're using DVD+ disks so you might want to try bitsetting.
I don't know if the burning programs you are using has the capability, but ImgBurn does.

The link applies to DVD Decrypter - which has been replaced by ImgBurn.

Example, if like me your burner is an LG, select the LG tab and change DVD+R to DVD-ROM.

    Thanks for the reply.

It is an Asus DRW-24B1ST, which is not on the brand list on that website, but I will look into bit setting, if possible.

The bluray player plays DVD+R discs from my old Plextor burner, but not my new Asus one.

EDIT: I don't see any way to set the book type of this Asus burner. Maybe I will end up having to get a burner that supports it?

Find out which book type the working disks have.
Insert one of the working disks and run ImgBurn.
Get to the main window and click the Device tab.
My disks show DVD-R because that's all I use.
A commercial movie disk will show as DVD-ROM.
See if a working disk and a non working disk (both nominally DVD+R) have different book types.

I dont really notice much difference, except for the "Physical Format Information (Last Recorded)," where the Plextor burner was DVD+R and the ASUS was DVD-ROM.
