How can you check if you have burned out your burner? Used to make great copies on both of single layer and dual layer but latey I have been having troubles?
You have asked almost the identical question in Nero forum, double posting is not allowed. I will ask to have this one closed.
How do I do this right and get an answer to my qestion?[how do I delete the nero qestion and keep this one going... did not mean to be disrespectful
I use taiyo yuden silver thermal 8x DVD-R, the burners I use are SONY DVD RW DW-D26A JYS1 [dual layer] and SONY DVD RW DW-U18A UYS1 [sigle layer] the programs I use are 1 click dvd copy 4.2 and DVDxcopy Platinum. DVD shrink, DVD Decrypter, DVDFab and Nero. I have used both DVD burns to the degree that 1 to 2 every other day for about a year.
Would like to add that on my dual layer I never burned a dual layer disk yet because of the price of disks. There was a time my prosser was very hot due to fan problems for a long time but still made good disks [AMD 2600+ 2083MHz Temp 44 .C ] Memory is 1.56Gb and a 80 hard drive at 49.4 % free space. Running xp pro
Well looks like Testing a DVD burner is unheard of... so can any one suggest a good single and double layer burner for around $80.00 to $100.00 ea.
try this first, uodate this burner... update to JYS3 here is the link.. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces
@herrick What kind of problems are you having? Playback issues? Burn errors? Details please Post your last nero log to see if it can give some more clues. It can be found at crogram files>ahead>nero>nero history.log. Be sure to edit out your serial #. Each post is separated by this: ====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ====== Copy and post the log below that.
I will post log when I get home tonight[at work]... but for starters when I use 1 click or DVDxcopy after the reading part the programs will not go into the writing part of the program. Not everytime but alot and more as time gos on.I have been getting alot of write errors also. Tried looking up that post on update but could not figure it out- could not find the burner.I just opened a new case of disks and [TY] had went through 4 disks... saved them and used DVD shrink and it worked, sometimes it does not start to burn and i get lucky other times it gets to 20% and then its a coster
I also look in task manager and it shows that the program is running, but does not find its to the writing part- I have really gotten myh moneies worth already... I mean I have burned over 150 moives, someone told me they do not last long with that kind og useage. I payed $40.00 for the single I think and I know for sure I payed $70.00for the dual at infotech.
Sounds like you need to be in the DVDXCopy forum. LOL Since we're doing so good here, we'll just keep going and let the mods sort this one out. Don't think they'll put it in 3 at the same time. You told us the situation, Shrink works and DVDXCopy doesn't. That indicates the problem is with XCopy. XCopy is a decent app, when it works. It suffers more from system interference than a lot of transcoding programs. Batch writing software such as InCD in Nero and Drag to Disc in Roxio cause a lot of problems. Other recording suites have their own versions of batch writing ware. There was a list of problems that were called a blacklist not to be used with XCopy. Viruses and clutter are also more a problem with XCopy. So keeping the system clean is important, use a good AV app and Spybot. You may want to run a reg cleaner, delete XCopy, clean the system, and then reboot and reinstall XCopy. Reboot before using. Sometimes for no apparent reason the XCopy files become corrupted and a new installation takes care of the problem. With an activation of 321 XCopy the activation stays in the system. With the one from International, back up the prgram .exe files to be on the safe side. I checked just the other day and DVDXCopy International support was still there. By the way, drives arenn't overly fussy about the software they function with, as long as it's decent. If it works with Shrink, it should work with others. If you're in a dusty and/or smoky environment, you may want to clean the optical head on occasion. By the way drives can be tested with an app like SiSoft Sandra, but you have to have the test disc for the purpose. It tests the drive and compares performance to others that have been recorded for comparison. So, testing drives is not unheard of, just most folks don't have the test disc.
As I stated above it is not only the xcopy but 1 click also and it does not do it every time? Will a reg. cd cleaner work or could you advise... LOL And can not post the same subjects in other forms, I found that out! I shut down everything to the point that here is 0 processor useage.. nothing running in back round and I do not use any of the other program you mentioned. I use a reg. cleaner regulery- My DVD shrinks takes for ever so I hardly use it.If the optical is dirty you would think that it would effect all coping programs and not just the two?
a dirty lens wont interfere with programs, however it is a suggested method of maintenance.. also, i just noticed, your sig has your e-mail addy.. you should remove that, cuz a mod will tell you to remove it. just a heads up.
I stated something along those lines, That includes the optical drive. CD cleaner or a DVD Cleaner that runs some tests. I have a Philips DVD Cleaner disc I picked up at Wal Mart. It does some tests as well as clean. It could give you a hint if the pixelation is coming from the drive or not. How does the drive play DVDs. Do you get pixelation with the viewer. Shrink working and the others not still indicates software problems. If Shrink is taking so long, I wonder about your system. What are your specs; brand, model, CPU and speed, amount of RAM, HD size and freespace, and the operating system? Also what is the file system and how long does it actually take to encode with Shrink? By the way, I recently retired a Panasonic drive badged Memorex. It was 3 years old and had done several hundred backups for me extended family. It was still burning RW and the optical head was reading well as well. My problem was that it stopped finalizing DVD +/-R recordable discs. So drives can last a long time under heavy service. I'm not saying it isn't the drive, but I don't see how it works well with DVD Shrink and not the others. Like I asked, how does it play DVD factory discs. As for burning, if it burned with a supported Shrink burner or about any for that matter, more than likely it isn't a laser problem.
@ brobear.... btw.... long time no see, as we have not really crossed paths much.. but he stated his specs here... but in all reality, i think we may be confusing him....
Thanks, I remember seeing it now. Doing too many threads at once. The system seems ample for the task. I'd suggest due to the overheating in the past, that SiSoft Sandra be downloaded and the bench tests for the CPU and memory be run to see how the system compares to a similar machine's specs (stored in the app) shown on the comparison graph. Keep an eye on the temps as well. This is just a maintenance check to make sure the system is okay. The problems with faulty burns mimic the common problems XCopy has had all along. The Patin Couffin driver needed to be updated in some cases. Also, tech support stated a system could work okay for a long time and when problems occurred, they could snowball. 1 Click is one of those apps best left to small movies and movie only. I'm not sure if it uses Patin Couffin or not. That can explain part of the difference in software. Here's an easy check with another piece of software, but the software requirements have to be met. Most systems are up to date, but some people forget. It has to have the latest DirectX and XP or 2000 as the OS. Go to http://www.intervideo.com and get the DVDCopy4 trial. Use AnyDVD and rip the source to the hard drive with DVD Decrypter. View the source with your video player software to make sure you're starting with a clean source on the PC. We're segmenting to see where the problem lies. That will eliminate the read. Next encode and record the output to the hard drive. It's easy, first create an empty folder to put the movie in on your hard drive. Then step 1, click the browse icon and select the source. Step 2 click browse again and select the empty output file you created on the HD. Step 3 select DVD if it isn't already in the selection box. Make sure 4.7GB is the size selected, then make sure the Fit to One Disc box is checked. Click the start copying icon at the lower right and it will record to the HD. Everything is done but the burn. Next do the burn using Nero Express. Take a look with DVD player software before you start to view your output files. Doing it this way no one part of the process is connected. Your Nero log will just reflect an error if it happens in Nero. Unlike other apps that don't log. With that info we may be closer to finding the problem. It will be interesting to see what the Nero log says.
gear79 True, I've not been helping with the Newbie section as much as I used to. Good seeing you. Noticed you made it past the holidays. Hope all is well.
My processor at times when I come home afer loading my burners with a movie and blank disk is stuck at 100% useage? It is not that I get pixelation... Im trying to fix something before it gets to my stand alone- and not sure if shrink is working right because the others work also, but not consistanty. I use many others like DVD43, Its just that i use Xcopy and 1click the most... see it on 1click mostly.I was useing some poor disks before because they where free LOL... so never took it as something was wrong intill I got the TYs. where can I get this "SiSoft Sanfra at? All I do is copy movies nothing else.
