Hi guys I am trying to back up a DVD(one that I own) its a music DVD runs for 1hr30mins. I have run it through DVD Decrypter...NO problems there. DVD Shrink :I am using ScubaPetes' guide (to the letter)and I have tried a number of times with the same result: 2% Encoding
    Decryption Status......Not Encrypted
    Rate...................147KB/s
    Buffered...............37mb
    Time Remaining.........8hours7mins.
This is ridiculous as I have used these progs several times with great success. I even deleted progs and downloaded them again...no difference. I dont know whats going on but I had Norton Uninstalled and my first attempt to burn with nero was also several hours just to transcode I have now got it (Nero) under control. Does anyone have any clues???? Thanks in advance, LOL

Are you multi-tasking? If so, stop all other running programs. Ripping a DVD needs to do it's business without anything getting in the way. Also, when is the last time you rebooted? If it's been a while, then I would reboot and when you get your computer on again, try ripping the disc again with all other programs shut down.

DakotaFan, sorry I was 1 finger typing whilst you were. No I am not multitasking, rebooted 1hour ago and have ripped disc so many times it hardly has any "grooves" left. As I said I have used these progs MANY times with success

Well I've just had a "Time Out" and a couple of quite beers while I tried again, this time I tried with NeroVision Express3...just dragged the files over, hit burn...came back in 27minutes and it was done, a successful burn. Joyed by that (and the 2 beers) I tried with Shrink...still in excess of 8hrs. Thats it I'm off to bed so will check in the morning to see what you guys have to say. LOL

HiNephilim, thanks for your reply. No you have it wrong I am sorry to say. In my original thread I reported that it took several hours trying to burn a DOWNLOADED MOVIE using NERO...I reported back that I finally got Nero to work at a respectable speed. This post has NOTHING to do with the first as this time I am trying to BACK UP a DVD using both DVD Decrypter and then DVD Shrink where I am having a similar problem. I know it's against Forum Rules to DOUBLE POST but I cannot see how this can be regarded as a Double. One problem solved ,another created. The other thread was posted in Nero Discussion. I believe I have followed forum rules. I really apreciate any assistance given to me by forum members and in return I try to assist where possible. I think creaky has it wrong in this case however if I am in the wrong I offer my sincere apologies and would be grateful if someone could offer me a solution to my queerie. LOL

Hi. I'm certainly not here to be a pain, I'll be happy to look more closely at both threads, both of which no doubt have a simple answer. I guess the way I see it is sometimes a thread can be reused for a similar problem. Anyway, no harm meant, nor with any posts I report to mods for consideration.

Creaky and Nephilim in relation to double posting I feel you have unfairly singled me out whereas I do not believe I have done so. I f you want to be consistant with double posting then I suggest you go back a few days and check out Peanuts contribution, he had 2 threads going at the SAME time on the SAME subject, I didn't see anyone report him. As I said any help given to me is appreciated and I DO NOT want to break any forum rules.. when and if I do, then tell me.

i'm off to bed as soon as 'Kingdom of Heaven' finishes (fantastic film). anyway, is it just this one DVD that's behaving in this way ?. if not maybe it's worth looking at something like the (long) output from Nero's info-tool, purely as it'v very descriptive of a system..

Up until thursday I was able to both copy DVDs and burn movies quite ok. My Norton AntiVirus expired so I uninstalled it and installed a different one, apparently the 2 clashed and comp froze. I had clean up tool run through twice to remove Norton and when I returned to the world of Backing Up and Burning my probs began. This morning I have once again run "clean up tool" to get rid of any remaining Norton traces. It is my GREAT PLEASURE to advise that I am back into Backing Up and burning successfuly using DVD Decrypter-DVD Shrink and Nero to burn....they actually seem to be going a little faster. Thanks for all your contributions. As Creaky said...probably something simple. Happy Burning.LOL

    @gwendolin,

I feel your pain, especially if it's more than 4 hours just to do a backup. So overall how long does it take you to successfully backup/burn a dvd movie now? Hopefully, you'll get things all sort out in due time. If it's more than 2 hrs, then I suggest you reformat your system from a fresh start (just a thought that's all). Like I said on your other thread on the Nero Forum that your computer may be infected with some sort of bugs, viruses, trojans, hijackers, etc., thus it's taking you forever to successfully completed a backup. Do you have any of the following programs? They're pretty useful to have, not only that but it helps your computer to stay protected.

    http://www.reviewlocator.com/download-12/ (CCleaner - free)
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html (Spybot - free)
    http://lavasoft.element5.com/default.shtml.en (Ad-Aware SE - free)
    http://www.reviewlocator.com/download-77/ (Microsoft AntiSpyware - free)
    http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 (AVG - free)
    http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm (Sygate Firewall - free)
    http://www.reviewlocator.com/download-61/ (ZoneAlarm Firewall - free)
HiJackThis - this is very useful, but be very careful of what you deletle.

I don't know about your computer's specs, but mine is pretty slow (at 2.67GHz) comparing to today's technologies. I can safely say that I can decrypt/rip a movie using DVD Decrypter at around 15 mins to the hard drive. Once that process is done, I encode the movie with Nero Recode 2 and this takes around 15 - 25 mins [depends on how long/big is the movie]. Finally, I backup with Nero Burning Rom at around 8 mins using genuine Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R disc.

People, why in hell your having problems with DVD Shrink, I dont understand why but I'm kiking ass with it for a long, long time and I never have a problem with DVD Shrink. My worst time making a copy of a original DVD was 25 minutes so please you have been making some kind of mistake or your computers have some virus or you just dont know the rules of the program to work well,----I am not a nubie, I have been working with this kind of programs since stone age so REPLY to the Lord26 for answers.
