i tried burning some files to disk using my LiteON 16x dvd+-R/+-RW drive with Nero burning software that came in the box and there was a problem during the burning and i had to cancel, from that point on my normal disk drive and the one i tried using to burn the files do not work, they do not sound right either, i have tried unplugging them from inside the computer and rebooting with no avail, if anyone has any ideas please let me know, and thank you for your help

check that you have the jumpers installed correctly on both drives check the install guide that came with your drive for instructions
try unplugging one drive and running the other and see if it works correctly
make sure DMA is on on both drives if available

An overloaded power supply can also cause this problem (are you running multiple HDD's)
dont disconect your drives with your computer powered up !!!!!

i went to that link and did everything it said but i tried changing the transfer mode to DMA on my secondary IDE Channel, under IDE ATA/ATAPI controller, for device 1 but the current transfer mode is still PIO, i restarted and everything, and i also looked under my Nero configuration and under my DVD burner it said "DMA off", and also i tried putting a audio cd into either drives and my computer still does not recognize them, also could you maybe explain the second part of your message and what i should do, thanks

try unplugging one drive and running the other and see if it works correctly
shut your computer down disconect the ide and power cable from one CD/DVD drive restart your computer and see if the active drive is working correctly
Have you check the jumpers at the back of the CD/DVD drives ?

hey, i checked the connections in the drives when i opened up my computer and they were all in good, when the top drive, the one that can read dvds and cds but is not for burning them, is unplugged and i restarted no drives showed up in MY Computer besides the C drive and some other shared folders, i also just for the heck of it tried to plug my dvd burner drive into the connections were the other drive usually goes but it still didnt work and nothing showed up in My Computer, also i dont know if this will help but one of the times i disconnected the drives when i restarted my comp. it brought me to a black and white screen were i could press f1 to continue, or f2 to reset or somthing, also if i could some how bring up a log of the day i was burning the cd do you think that could tell us what went wrong?, and another point when i took out my top drive it sounded like something was almost like rolling around in there, it makes that same sound when it tries to read a disk, but nothing has happened to the comp were i think something would be nocked loose, i hope this info can help alittle more,

Leaving your burner unplugged and plugging your reader back in does your reader read disks correctly ?

try the dma set up again with just the reader attached
Did you install the burner yourself ?
Have you checked the jumpers at the back of your DVD/CD Drives ?

it didnt work, under primary ide channel properties(device 0 Dma is available, ultra mode 5 device on) secondary ide channel properties(device 0 dma is available, ultra dma mode 2)/ and under nero info tool- configuration, for master it said dma on, and for secondary ide channel master:dvd-rom dma turned on and autorun on, what do you think if i could find a log of what might have gone wrong?

i did everything you said and i used the ide channel i had going into the reader and put it into the burner, the good news is that my computer says the drive is there under my computer, but it doesnt read the disks that i put in, it at one point sounded like it almost got the audio cd to work, just from the sound of the burner working, it sounded like it went further in trying to play it, the furthest it has one since before it stopped working, if there is any other info that you need to know just let me know
