I have a weird (ish) problem that has arisen. 2 or 3 movies that I downloaded as .rar files, extracted to bin/cue and then burnt to SVCDs, will play in one of my standalones (Acoustic Solutions 521) but not in my Compacks 5000, my Pacific 1002 or my Sumvision N820 divx player.
Can anybody suggest a reason for this other than media incompatibility (I'm burning on Infiniti 48x white top)?
When the SVCD disk is inserted, in each case the OSD says 'SVCD', 'PBC off', and 'Loading', but then the stop button appears on screen and that's the end of it!
In the 521 the disks just play straight off!

Thanks for the advice - I tried doing this, but despite ensuring that PBC is turned on in the preferences menu, as soon as I insert these particular disks I still get the on-screen messages as above.
Could it be anything else, or maybe something to do with the way the movies have been encoded to SVCD, or burnt to disk?

I'd be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing this problem with downloaded SVCDs?

i have this same problem.. 90% of the svcds i burn work(which tells me its not my burning software which is dvddecrypter, or my media which is maxell) but a select few will say "SVCD PBC OFF" and it will have the stop icon. when i press play it will still stay on the stop icon.

ive read around about this and people say to turn PBC on but i have yet to find out howto do this with my Apex dvd player.

    Yep, this is exactly it!
But how to understand it and solve it is the problem!
I may have done it - the SVCDs that were causing this reaction were all burnt from BIN/CUE files using CDRWIN - however the last couple I have done (The Incredibles Centropy and Bridget Jones SG18) I have burnt with Nero, still BIN files, and they have played perfectly.
Trouble is I still don't have the BINs for the older ones that don't play, so I can't do a comparison.
Why don't you give it a try with Nero and post the results?

OK I take it all back!!!
Just burned Oceans Twelve on SVCD and the same problem has arisen - OK on one standalone, but not on all the others!

I suggest you have a look at the Guides m8 unless you have a specific contribution to make to this particular issue - sorry!

can anyone help with firmware links, updates and so on, particulartly with macro removal as it is required with my setup at home. Not for copying, just have no scart on tv so goes into video and it plays up with bought dvd's, though any downloaded stuf is ok
    mail direct or post here.
    Thanks.
