I currently have 512/128 dsl through GTcom (the only broadband provider in my town. Comcast is advertising that they will have cable available beginning next month,(assuming hurricane Ivan does not sink the whole damn state) supposedly 3&4mb lines depending on your subscription.How will a 4 mb shared cable connection compare to my 512kb dedicated line? the price difference will be about $12.00 a month more for cable which is nothing for a better connection, not to mention that when i test my bandwith (dsl reports.com) i averge only 352kb any input appreciated

A much more accurate method of testing your connection to the Web is available at this URL:- http://www.dslreports.com/stest Scroll to where it shows 220 locations to test from -- select a location near you and let it send and retrieve data to your PC to get your Download and Upload speed. You can also use the Test Tools to verify the settings on your PC and tweak if you feel like it. ! Downloading an image to your PC does not give much of a test as it reside in your Temporary folder once you've done it . Just done a Test for my connection here's the results:- 2004-09-10 20:48:49 EST: 4162 / 837 Your download speed : 4261902 bps, or 4162 kbps. A 520.2 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 857204 bps, or 837 kbps. Test was done from NYC to Denver CO.
Yes ... Java enabled. lol ... went there and it said "Sorry! your IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xx, has now requested 16 applet loads, which is over the limit for today."

Am on a T4 dedicated line ! Ermmmm , sort of privilege for my working from home !It's paid for by my employer ! But your test is OK . That is good speed from an ISp.
