Hi gamlin25, first of all you need to ensure that the cable you have got is actually a null modem cable as standard serial cables are also rs232 compliant but they will not work to flash the dreambox mate.

Hi I got a rs232c cable which has a male end and a usb end i also bought a female to female adapter to connect the two ends together, its a 9 pin if im correct if you have got a picture of the right cable I would appreciate or the correct name. also what software do I need to update on it???? I got a starview box myself which is far more easier for me :) but i gotta sort this out for me dad. many thanks.

Hi again, you need a null modem cable. It has a 9 pin female plug at each end. As far as I am aware it can't be done using a usb to 9 pin din plug. I may be wrong about that though. The pin outs are normally as follows:

I ftp the nagarom7.
I have since from this forum got updated Rom10 and 11 and ftp to box.
Cleared the Keylist.txt file and allow to Autoupdate on N*L . worked.

Hi, I've just bought a second hand DM 500-C, i have sucessfully flashed with the recommended image using null modem. I can find a transponder but when i scan (using bruteforce IRL) it cannot find any channels. I know my signal is OK because i have a starv**w box which finds all channels. Any pointers? Thanks.

It sound like your not scanning the right feqencies. Make sure your have an Ireland cable.xml file in the box before scanning.
