can't get audio with my power dvd player

I have windvd which is flaky with some dvds but otherwise is ok. To play these flaky dvds which my neighbours seem to play with power dvd..i installed powerdvd & tried to play dvds, and it seems to play dvds but no audio. I tried to download several dvd players, but all of them seems to play without audio...is there something i need to set to get the audio..or does windvd needs to disable it or what..any help is appreciateted.
