Plextor finally did it - a dual layer burner. I guess I'll be replacing my beloved 708A soon Forgot the link http://www.plextor.com/english/products/716A.htm _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Got Indie? http://cdbaby.com/ My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim Forum rules! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]

What's the deal with Plextor dvd burners? Everybody seems to really like them. Are they really that good? Better than Pioneer and the rest?
Plextors are damn good drives. They're the quietest, smoothest and best performing drives I've ever had the pleasure to use. I won't buy anything else.
i spoke to some one at plextor they said the drive should hit best buy in the 1st or second wek in november
*Thread about to get hijacked* Question for the knowledgeable folks at afterdawn.com. Which is the smarter move to get a great external burner? I already have Toast 6(Yes is a mac powerbook), so software isn't going to be a concern. I'm not a cheapsake. I just want a kick ass burner, price not much of a concern. 1. Just pick up the PX-716 UF. 2. Buy the 716a with an external enclosure. 3. Buy an internal Pioneer 108 with an external enclosure. 4. Any other sugguestions are highly appreciated
This drive is getting ripped on http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=111839. Two guys bought it and put up some graphs and #s about the px 716.
This is taken from that same thread posted by G@M3RFR3@K, a Senior Admin there: And I absolutely agree with him. A drive never reaches it's full potential until firmware bugs are worked out.
Well xmas is coming and I think, you deserve to treat yourself there Nephilim........forget the family gifts this xmas.....in fact cancel xmas........ They should understand - in the name of science and all........LOL I have to be honest, I am tempted to invest in a Plextor product, do they do a really good dvdrom?
With your blessings, baabaa, Xmas is out the door this year! I will shower myself, and only myself, with all sorts of computer goodies and revel in my wanton selfishness! Then probably get beat to death by my family for doing it. I'm not sure when the 716A is going to fit into my budget. It's a 19" LCD in two weeks to replace my 19" CRT. After I bought a 17" LCD to compliment my CRT (dual monitor setup) I found out that I like the picture on the LCD much better so now I need to replace the CRT! Then it's a new 1.5X-6X scope for my .44 magnum carbine since it killed the last scope I had on it. Then I think it's a 716A Now after all this horrifically off topic blathering, I don't believe Plextor makes ROMs anymore. Ironically enough, even if they did I believe I'd stick with my Lite-On 166S for which I feel there is no peer _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Got Indie? http://cdbaby.com/ My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim Forum rules! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
LOL, visions of Nephilim tied to a Snowman outside on xmas day and his family throwing mince pies at him whilst drinking eggnog.................... A well deserved gift, LCD, scopes and guns, nice to see the spirit of xmas is still around........LOL
as of today it is available at Best Buy, and i already have mine stashed (going to do a PSP replacement..sometimes those service plans are a good thing)
My PC will support SATA. Do you think it's worth waiting until Plexor releases their 716SA as mentioned in their webiste (or somewhere where I read it? I want to upgrade, but not sure if I should buy the 716A or wait. Or is the difference not really a big deal. Now that I just bought Nero 6 Ultra, it might be nice to have a new burner to try it out with.
