Hey there guys. I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 and DVD Decrypter. I'm trying to burn my smallville DVD sets, and to this point, all the discs have burned fine except for disc 5. It only encodes up to 2%, freezes, and an error message pops up. The error message is : DVD shrink encountered a problem and cannot continue Failed to read file F:/(which is the drive the dvd is in) Data error (cyclic redundancy check) What does that mean? I tried to burn directly with with decrypter and get the message: Failed to write because file is not encrypted. Isn't this what decrypter is supposed to do? Don't know what to do. I even tried an older version of shrink 3.1 and that didn't work. If anyone has experienced the same thing or any assistance would be very welcome. Thanks.
A CRC means the drive can't read the disc. If the disc is clean and scratch free it's most likely a bit of corrupt data on it from the factory which isn't uncommon. If you can still return the set you may want to _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Got Indie? http://cdbaby.com/ My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim Forum rules! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
Well the disc does have a few minor scratches on it. Would that really affect it? It works fine in a regular dvd player, and I have also been able to burn other dvd's with minor scratches on it as well. Is there anything at all that I can do?
Players handle scratches better because they're made to ignore the same errors that'll choke a PC drive when it's trying to extrtact the data bit for bit. There's no rhyme or reason to how scratches will affect a particular DVD in part because no two scratches are alike so I wouldn't be too surprised that this one choked while others ripped fine. You might look into one of those scratch repair kits, maybe you can salvage the disc enough to rip it. _X_X_X_X_X_[small] Got Indie? http://cdbaby.com/ My Movies! http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Rephaim Forum rules! http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487[/small]
