Ok. What's with the "holes" of data (places where data aren't burned) that appear after I burn a dvd. It seems that when I check my DVD-Rs after I've burned them that any place where there was a piece of dust on the writing surface that there is also a piece of data missing (the holes). Anyone know what causes this (bad writer, bad discs, just some freakin dust?)?

Believe it or not, "some freakin dust" can cause burn problems. I always make sure my source and my media are exceptionally clean before use. :>)

BTW,Always clean from center out in straight lines, NOT in a circular motion to ensure a good burn.

I agree with bigorange on this.......I check my media B4 and after burning.
I`ve had brand new media with "holes".

thanks for the heads up. I try cleaning them b4 burning and it just seems to make it worse. I even use a soft cloth to clean them. I'm just an idiot. ^-^

Sometimes a very light shot of canned air works pretty well. If the disc has a static charge on it then good luck. Sometimes rubbing the disc with a dry cloth can cause a static charge to develop and just makes it worse. I actually use a light mist of screen cleaner first, dry it gently, then finish with a bit of air.
