No audio on dvd movies using my PS2

I have several movies in avi format. I copied one onto a memorex dvd-r disc. When I play them using my Ps2 the video comes up fine but there is no audio every time. I have played other dvd movies on my Ps2 and they work ok but the ones I make have no sound. Do you know what causes this problem? maybe software or dvd media? Thanks
