From my experiences with WinAVI, I cannot recommend it.
I can however recommend VSO's DivxToDVD, it processes a whole movie in about an hour on my machine. The quality is some of the best I've seen, although it has a bit of trouble with onscreen text with anything besides black behind it. I have used it to do about 10 DVDs now for friends after being wary of it for a while, and now I wish I had used it sooner. It goes ahead and makes the VOBs and other DVD format files, so all you have to do is burn the output files to a DVD. The files will equal about two and a half gigabytes, so no worries about size.
Thank you everyone I will try everything like everyone sugested I am new at this but i know computers well this is just my first time burning a dvd. I downloaded a movie from bit comet but it was an AVI and i burnt it onto a dvd+r but it just wont play in my T.V dvd player but it will play on my computers dvd player.
But i have problems with TMPGEnc.I can't Select the source video. But i have no idea why. when i want open *.AVI it sais can not be open or unsupported format. BUT it's a :

Hi...i too would like to know the name of a program that can determine the codecs that was used to create a specific downloaded AVI file......I too will be looking for the answer..........thanx

One of the prorams i use is Ulead dvd 3, You can do more a less anything with dvd, vcd, mpeg,avi,And it doesnt hardly slow my system at all, And it converts very fast, Its the best most easiest program ive ever used,
I also have Theorica Divx :-)codecs In my program files somebody with more knowledge than me installed it for me,I would suggest you check out- Theorica.net
As far as i know you can download a trial version of ulead dvd, Or if you search some torrent sites you can find full version, If you look on google, Theres loads of programs, dvd santa is another good program, The first program i mensioned seems the fastest, I converted one today it took about 80 miniuts to convert
Hi Bern2707 you mentioned using a program Ulead DVD3...Is that the same program called Ulead dvd Workshop 2 ?????? i could not find Ulead DVD3....please advise.....
i have tried posting on these forums many many times and i never ever ever get a reply, so i figure ill post here and see if my luck changes. Here is the topic i posted on the 25 and didnt receive one reply to:http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/163122 i still have the problem with the sides cutting off and i dont know what to do about it. I prefer to use winavi because i can just put in like 15 avi's and it gets converted to vob files, then i can just shrink them and burn. Unless there is a program that can let me do this at the same speed(it takes like two hours for te vob files to be made and it took like 12 hours for less files in tmpgenc), could you guys refrain from suggesting other programs

Yes it is the same program as far as i know, I installed the newest program, And it comes up ulead dvd 3, Maybe because its the 3rd version, If i click on the desktop icon it comes up Dvd moviefactory 3, You can convert most stuff to dvd, I use it all the time its excellent and really quick, Sorry about the delay in answering ive been getting a new broadband connection cheers, Ps let us know what you think when you try it

Hey, I have some AVI files that i want to convert to dvd, (like video_ts and stuff) I have VSO Divx to DVD, but about half way through the encoding, it freezes up. Is there any tools that will work for that? Thanks

I am also having some issues with the sides and some of the top/bottom cutting off. I'm really noticing this because I have some subtitled .AVI files, and part of the first/last words get cut off on the sides, sometimes almost completely unreadable because they go off the bottom of the screen.
I'm using NeroVision Express 3 right now, but just started burning DVD's, so I'm open to other software products that work better.
Any advice would be great from you guru's out there!

BTW Mattt, if it's taking 9 hours, it could be your burner or how you're configuring the software to burn. What's the max burn ability of your burner? Is the software set to burn at a low speed??
i recently had a problem AVI files and others sticking half way through, Freezing computer ect, Found it was my system overheating, Allways worth checking your pc temperature, Anyway only a thought
