I just purcahsed an External DVD Burner - Mad Dog 16X +- R +-RW for my lap top. With it I purchased box of DVD-R Value Discs. I was somewhat succesful in burning one of my DVD's. It works on my DVD Rom on my PC and one of the three DVD I have tested it on.

Anyone have any thoughts on my which direction I should start looking to have it consistently work:

Should I get abetter media and if so what?
Or is it a DVD problem that I can not get around?

    Any help would be apprectiated.

    Sam

I purchased the Verbatim DVD+R Recordable Digital Movie type. Will this work better than the Value Disc -R disc I purchase earlier or should I look at buying a Verbatim DVD -R Disc. Will that work better than the +R that I have. I have yet to open the package.

depends on what version ps2 you have. If you have a v1-3, +r wont work.

    Update:

I tried the +R disc and it wrote OK, but did not read on my PC DVD or any of the DVD'd.

So it does look as though -r FOR my PC and DVD is a must.

By the way, can you educate me on what you mean by "
    version ps2 and v1-3"

    Thanks

there many versions of the playstation 2. the first ones made are v1, and the latest ones made are v11. The older versions, 1-3, won't read +r discs.

    Here is an update:
I purcahsed some Verbatim DVR-R Super AZO disks.

I burnt and disk and had the same success with the Value Disc DVD -R I had orginally tried.

I am almost thinking that the DVD's themslef may be the issue.

    I have three:
Yamaha - Disc does not work
RCA DRC 220 - Disc does not work
Cyberhome - works (most recent works).

The other items is that when the DVD encrytor takes over, I receive several "semaphone time period has expired errors" I just retry many times and it eventually takes.

One other Item I did not mention earlier, although the DVD burner is a USB 2.0, my PC connection is a 1.1.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Frustrated Sam

    petemistr, start your own thread.

Thats why your getting the semaphone time period has expired errors, and might be your problem with burning. You can buy a usb2.0 card for $10-20 at the store (probably $5 on pricewatch.com), which i highly suggest.
