need to extract audio from .avi!!!! HELP!!!

    hey, when i join to avi files with virtualdub, i can't get the mp2 file from tmpgenc, and when i extract the ac3 audio with virtualdubmod, it comes out with no sound... is there anyway i can get the sound a different method?!! please help, i have been looking everywhere for a way to do this...
