Often pirated DVDs have an invalid structure that will play OK on a DVD player (standalone or computer) but will not open in DVDShrink as there is some file missing. You can try ripping in file mode with DVD Decrypter and then using DVDShrink to re-author if you don't mind losing the menu. OR Try a direct ISO copy with Decrypter, but that sometimes comes up with a copy error and a message in Decrypter when you verify after burn that it cannot find the TOC. Best thing to do is steer clear of pirated movies.
To find if the disc is encrypted use DVD Shrink and when it is doing the brief disc scan you will see the encryption info on the right. If the disc is not encrypted then it is probably a pirate copy and therefore almost certainly already a DVD5. This being the case you can backup the disc directly by using Nero and the 'Copy disc' option. I would not recommend copying the disc with Decrypter.
