Changing a .exe file to a .zip??

A game that downloaded needs to be changed from it's current .exe state to a .zip in oredr to play it. Any one know how to do this step by step? I've been told I have to do this in dos prompt, but I never use dos so I'm lost. I also have a few games I would like to patch but i'm not sure how to burn them to disk correctly so that the game recognizes the needed files. Obviously i'm a noob at this. Any help or sites you could recommend to help would be appreciated.
