I tried using the HMDI cables I got from the cable company instead of the PS3 HDMI I purchased from blockbuster. Still no luck =(

I used a non-abrasive cleaner on the cables connectors and let them dry. Blew compressed air into the ports. Funny thing is I think this is I played spiderman 3 in 1080P thru the PS3 last night. Doesnt seem to have issues playing DVD's in 1080P.

You mean this problem only happens when playing bluray movies?

No sorry what I meant was i have no issues running movies in 1080p
But the PS3 when I attempt to set it to 1080p i get glitchy spots the fade in and out on the screen. TV is a 1080p that is what is confusing me.

It sounds like a hardware problem, whether it is the TV or the PS3 a can't say for sure. Any chance you could take a picture of what you're seeing and post it on here?

Sadly I do not have a camera atm the best I can do is attempt to describe it. Like I said it only happens when I attempt to run the system in 1080p. I hear a pop thru the speakers and basically get digital patches of "popcorn" or glitch information. It doesnt fill the whole screen but different random spots. In fact, although drKrypto's pictures arent still up for viewing, it almost sounds like his problem (static like) but it happens to me from the moment I select 1080p in the playstations display menu. All other resolutions work fine and like i said spiderman 3 ran in 1080p flawlessly from the PS3 the other night.

Does your computer's video card support HD resolutions? If we could determine whether the problem lies with the PS3 or the TV it would definitely make proceeding alot simpler; though right now I'm leaning towards it being the PS3's fault.

If not do you have a friend with a PS3 you could try on your tv?

I will see if I can find out about the video card. I have a Nvidia geforce 7600 GS. Sadly I'm the only person I know that has a PS3. I'll figure out if the vid card has HD support and get back to you. Appreciate all your help so far =)

No problem at all. And if you haven't figured out my idea yet it was to run a DVI cable from the computer to the TV and try running it on the 1080P resolution. If it works fine we can pretty much conclude that it is the PS3's fault and not the TV's.

Hey. This might help you out. Although all br movie disks play 1080p, almost all br ps3 disks will not display at 1080p. For example the newest game out gta IV, it only nearly displays in 720p~~!!! The game companies do this because setting the pixel rate that high and trying to have a frame rate of 60 fps (frames per second) is nearly impossible with today's technology. They would rather you have a faster refreshing picture than driving through liberty city so fast that you could see the road creating along the way. The problem you are having is your hd tv is trying to pixelate at a rate that is just not possible! Try setting your ps3 to 1080i or even 720p and try to play your game then. I am betting you won't get the same problem. I have been reading a couple things hear and there on some ps3 forum sites and this seems to help. Message me back and tell me how you do.
-Ray.

Im having trouble with playing online on Resistance: Fall Of Man. I can connect to the internet and everything but when Im about to play online on the game itself it says disconnected and takes me back to the game main menu.

Does it have anything to with the fact UPnP is unavailable? I need advice...
Thanks guys and girls,
Andy P
Try setting you router up in a DMZ and use the ps3's default address as the DMZ's number google it to find out how. It is pretty easy and makes connections flawless.

Thanks for that tid bit of info Ray! I have been looking high and low thru the forums for days about this specific issue. Yes you are correct when the PS3 is set to 1080i it runs and looks beautiful. I was just kinda shocked that it got all pixalated(sp) on me when I ran in 1080p since my TV is rated for it. But eventhough the TV looks great in all modes but 1080p, its the fact that 1080p res even on the home screen looks all popcorn-like that worries me. Of course it stays that way when you log into a game as well, and yet when I watch spiderman 3 on it (it gets bumped to 1080p) and there are no issues. Sorry If my thoughts are kinda scatterbrained atm but the whole situation just confuses me. However thank you again for your insight I do appreciate it.

Glad to help. Most games unless they clearly state 1080p on the case or in the flyer will not work in 1080p. Your TV is fine, thankfully. I know how it feels when an expensive tv does not work correctly. My 50 inch panasonic plasma died on me a day after I bought it. The plasma exlpoded! You should have seen it, the black just surrounded the picture until it was all black. Luckily circuit city took it back and gave me a new one. They said the fan was faulty and let the tv get too hot. Good luck gaming. Add me on your friend list

Hope someone can help me!!

I have a 40gb PS3 went to do the 2.35 firmware upgrade, downloaded then told me it couldn't find the right hard drive, need to restore drive, I said ok and it started to reformat the drive, got stuck at 94% for 5 hours, I removed the harddrive and reformated it on my pc, same problem when I put it back in, it won't even let me on the menu screen. When I boot up without the hard drive it says correct hard drive cannot be found. I have tried reformatting the drive numerous times(fat32), got it reformatting up to 97% now and still getting stuck also I still can't access the menu screen. Any ideas??

I have a freezing problem I hope someone can assist me with. I have the original 20 gb japanese PS3 and a few months ago it would freeze; often with pixels appearing over the screen first.

When I turned the switch on and off my TV would read NO SIGNAL for a while and I would have to eventually reprogram the PS3 to my TV after around 30 minutes.

I also noticed that I would get a scan line running up my screen after it worked again every minute or so and it would freeze again after 10 minutes to an hour.

I moved my PS3 away from any nearby items and it seemed to work; although this was around the same time as a system update, so I'm not sure what the real fix was.

However, recently it has started happening again; I have kept my console free from any obstructions and installed update 2.41.

The original problem happened when watching LOST season 3 and some other blu rays and it is happening now with Metal Gear Solid 4. Don't know if the discs have anything to do with it but I doubt it.

Does anyone have this same problems or symptoms? Is it an overheating or system problem? Will an intercooler fix it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my warranty has long expired. Cheers
