How do I get around a firewall by way of a free server?

From what I understand my computer is behind a firewall that disables p2p applications. So Kazaa, WinMx, eDonkey, and Direct Connect have been unsuccessful on my computer. Downloading from an http site is no problem, it's just programs that connect directly with another computer. I have heard that you can get around this by connecting to a server and then the server connects to the other computer and then sends you the information. I was just wondering how I go about doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try http tunnel. What it does is creates a little socks5 proxy on your computer and tranfers data through http (port 80) so a firewall would think its simple http trafic.

I already have tried http-tunnel and they have directions on how to make it work with kazaa lite but it deosn't seem to work with any other applications. Plus since it's the free version they limit the speed to about 2kbs. There has to be another way around this problem.
