Unable to Play AVI Files in Windows Media After Encoding

I'm having trouble playing back AVI files that have be encoded using DVDx. If I select VCD or SVCD the encoding is perfect. I'm able to watch the movie in Windows Media or any other player. But if I decided to convert it to DivX and use the Video Codec Xvid or DivX I run the risk of it not be able to play in Windows Media. Now this doesn't happen to all my DVD rippings just a few. I have to use my ATI File Player or DivX Player in order to play the ones that Windows Media want. Any reason why this occurs?
