I have NEC 3500A(G) and it is in a BYTECC 5.25" USB 2.0 External Enclosure, Model "ME-320U2" (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-145-314&depa=0). It is hooked up to my laptop, which has usb 2.0. The firmware of the drive is the official 2.18 (it came with 2.16 and I flashed it). It will burn dvd+r and +rw but wont burn dvd-r (haven’t tried dvd-rw). I used sony dvd+rw and imation dvd+r, and both worked. I used the free dvd-r’s that I got from newegg for buying my burner as well as some fujifilm dvd-r’s. I have tried dvdxcopy express, dvdxcopy platinum, nero 6.6.0.1, dvd decrypter, and dvd shrink. I have made seven dvd-r coasters. I don’t remember exactly what error it gave me though. Would it help to upgrade to a different firmware, or did I just get a bad drive. I don’t see why it works with dvd+r but not dvd-r. if you need any more info let me know. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I have read through your site and have not seen an answer to this, so I thought I would post it. Thank you.
i have practically the same set up. each time i thought i had it licked it screwed up again. next time you post, give detailed info of all your specs & all error messages, and ppl here will help you. after scubpete's advice i did much better. recently a new problem cropped up. My laptop is Fujitsu S6210: 1.6ghz Pentium m 768 mb ram 60gig 7200rpm hdd i have done all of the advice given by your link except the disable all startup thing. what does this accomplish. do i have to do it everytime. can you explain more. I have gotten that semaphore error before as well. Any more advice?
i believe it frees up system resources, enable you to run decryptor w/o any background stuff going on. im way to much of a newbie to be of any real help. but this seemed to help for a while Force ASPI 1.8. http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/ try it and lemme know how it goes. use dvd-rw. and do u still get that semaphore err? best way to get help is to put down the exact error message you get. whenever i start a thread i do it w/the error message i get. that way, when ppl are scanning they will see it off the bat, if they recognize it they will jump in. lot of good ppl roam these forums just to help out. thats why i like it so much.
Thanks again. I had already done that forceaspi thing. It didnt help. I will try to get some dvd-rw's, but I dont have that much money to be spending on blank media, and I have already spent quite a bit. Next time i try it i will make note of the exact error message. any more comments?
I read this somewhere else, what do you guys think: "I went to my bios and I changed the Transfer Mode from FPIO4/DMA 2 to Standard. Now it works!" ***********BUT************* I cant change that in th bios cause the NEC doesnt show up....im guessing becuase its hooked up via usb in the external enclosure. in the bios it says the primary is my harddrive and the secondary is my laptop's built in cdrw drive. in the device manager, the primary and secondary are already set to DMA also in the device manager it says: Intel(R) 82801DBM Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 24CA and in the properties of this, there is no "advanced settings" tab which means DMA option, only tabs for "general" "driver" "details" and "resources" Also, what about changing the I/O interface in dvd decrypter...?
