Defunct, not forgotten.
***it4m*(not allowed to say the name anywhere anymore :P) wizard mode was the easiest and best way for preparing files for DVD-RB, IMHO.
I might be late in this thread but free + paid was the best way to go for me!

Here is all the freeware a person will need for a while and it blows most of the retail out of the water. When Saw 3 was released in Region 1, it was working better than AnyDVD + CloneDVD 2.

...and if I remember correctly there was no update required either.

The FixVTS was updated about that time, but the RI4M didn't need it. It's had a few tweaks since. FixVTS was built in for model 1710.

I'm sure it has already been said in so many words a hundred times in this thread, but when it comes to ease of use and time--clone and AnyDVD win hands down. However, it is my opinion that freeware programs do a better overall job in terms of quality and customization....but it's more complicated and time consuming.

No one argues with easy :)

As long as you only have 10-20% compression. Past that many people, myself included, would say that DVD-RB/CCE is best and these are paid proggies. Much different than point and rip to setup.

Good point I wasn't even thinking about rebuilder since I have the free version of it.

Freeware has it's place and sometimes the programs are as good or better than retail. Sometimes they're niche items, but they're still handy. jeanl's FixVTS is a handy little program for compliance processing. I've not seen a retail equivalant. RI4M was able to beat the retail offerings for a while. That was a combo of some old freeware with a new macro. DVDFab Decrypter is the only other ripper style freeware that ranks at the top. The rest of the top decryption programming is retail. ImgBurn would be as good as any of the retail burner programs if it would simply burn files instead of having to build an ISO. The free RB with Hank's encoder rivals most retail software as far as turning out stunning video quality, even at high compression. But I'll have to go along with Deadrum33, nothing beats RB Pro with CCE, especially if it's CCE SP or CCE SP2.

I hate to be the one to ask the stupid question, but what is and where can I find "Hank's encoder?"

Sorry about that folks. I answered my own question with the search bar.

Can't do it with the freeware version of the program...that is just eye candy to get you to buy the fully supported full feature version. Try DVDFab Platinum (not sure if gold has the ability), there should be an option in the side bar for encoding to PSP.

Otherwise you will probably get better feedback to your question in the PSP forum.

Getting off topic on the 15th page but...

Isnt PSP same MPEG format as IPOD? I've done an IPOD B4, Videora converter is easiest I found and its a free download here at AD.
Use DVDFAb as a ripper, then I used DVD Shrink to get the main movie only out of it all. Run the main movie through Videora and bang. Its done. Or the free program SUPER converter, has its own setting for PSP and more options but not as easy I think.

Ripit4Me is still going strong for me even on Linux, the only ones I have heard it has problems with are the Protect DVD crap that a lot of stand alone players won't play.

everyone knows how big a fan i am of CloneDVD 2 + AnyDVD it does a great job its fast the quality is good and less cleanup (deleting files etc.) but does the freeware like "RipIt4Me" do a better job since your running it though more programs like FixVTS is it making a cleaner file? this should be a good debate and good information for everyone.

i used most the programs out there and CloneDVD 2 + AnyDVD is hard to beat BUT ive used "RipIt4Me" the last couple weeks also and its pretty much idiot proof and does a great job. I'm going to play them back on my new Sony SXRD 60" and see what looks best and will post soon
We can easily put this discussion to rest. Since we're discussing decryption software and transcoding software we'll need to separate parts of the discussion, especially quality of the final video output. The quality of the transcoding or encoding software determines the video quality, not the decryption software, such as AnyDVD, DVDFab Decrypter, or RipIt4Me. By the way, all 3 of those programs have been doing a good job. A lot depends on familiarity and preference.

Rebuilder with one of the supported encoders outdoes all the transcoders. The free DVD Shrink does as well as most transcoders and better than some. CloneDVD2, Recode, DVDCopy5 and others are comparable in output quality. Any transcoder worth anything can do low compression projects. Once the compression reaches 15-20%, I suggest using an encoder. Not just my thoughts but that of a lot of people familiar with the software. With transcoders, like the decryption software, a lot depends on familiarity and preference.

The big advantage of AnyDVD + CloneDVD is that Slysoft makes sure those 2 work together before making sure the AnyDVD works with other transcoders. We've seen that in the recent past. CloneDVD is incorporated into the newer AnyDVD as part of the ripper software. Here's a hint, any transcoder that will set to DVD9 and works with AnyDVD can be used as a ripper.

I've used AnyDVD, RipIt4Me, and DVDFab Decrypter over the past months. Except for when a new spin on copy protection came along, they all did well. The last RipIt4Me incorporates FixVTS, so there is no running the output through FixVTS with that one. Thanks to program updates FixVTS is needed less frequent with decryption and trancoding software than in the past.

RipIt4Me is no longer supported that I'm aware of. I've not paid attention for the last bit. DVDIdle and Slysoft are the big retail players. There's a few others, but they don't keep up as well. DVDIdle is still giving away the free DVDFab HD Decrypter. I like their DVDFab Platinum as well as the AnyDVD + CloneDVD combo. DVDIdle sells theirs as one program. DVD Region + CSS Free is another good program from DVDIdle, though it hasn't caught on as well as the AnyDVD from Slysoft. I've used it with good results.

As for quality output, I can take RipIt4Me, DVD Rebuilder with Hanks Encoder, and ImgBurn and turn out a higher quality copy on a high compression task than using AnyDVD + CloneDVD. The RB setup mentioned can be done with all freeware. The difference is time. Encoders deliver higher quality, but the process takes longer. You sacrifice time for quality. I can use freeware with Shrink and do as well as the Slysoft software. Once again the Slysoft software is faster. Preferences don't always boil down to quality, but to ease of use and/or speed.

I'm not saying don't buy AnyDVD and CloneDVD. They do a good job with a small learning curve. I own both and at times in the past, Slysoft proved to find decryption solutions faster than others (though they've been slipping recently). Buy Slysoft if you want quick and easy with good results. Realize though that there are freeware that does as well or in some cases better, depending on the project. However, as I mentioned, those programs aren't always as easy to use as the Slysoft.

- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

I just wanted to add my opionion on what combos are the best. I too like aabbccdd am a fam of CloneDVD and AnyDVD. They are the best two paid programs out there but i have altered this combo slightly.

I use DVDFab Decrypter to rip and CloneDVD 2 to burn and compress my movies. I completley do not even use DVD Shrink anymore. That does not mean its a good program it is and i do recommend it if you really want excellent quality.

@taylor30---
The only way free can beat other programs is if you steal the pay programs that work better than Shrink. Read the rest of the thread or do some research if you dont wanna believe me.
Your free way might be easiest, but certainly doesnt give the best results.
