Hey, I have recently been reporting spammers on almost a daily basis to Mods so they can edit the posts and deactive the offenders accounts. I would like to propose an idea, feedback would be appreciated.

My idea is, if someone reports a spammer, the first one to do so would have 2 posts added to there account total.
I know this could be a bad idea though as it would cause unneeded double pm's about the same spammer but, its just an idea.

Another idea is, after someone helps get rid of a predecided amount of spammers (at least 15 or 20, mods or something can keep track) they could be eligable for a boost to a Moderator *cough*. You could also say they have to have a specific amount of posts (at least 400, i would say) but, that would be upto dRD or whoever can promote people. I am not asking to be a Mod, just making suggestions to cut down on spammers :)

    Looking foward to the feedback.

    Thanks,
    Pop Smith

ya, i'll start using that more... uhhh just wondering, is there any chance of me (I want to be one, but, its probably not gonna happen till I hit addict level) becoming a Mod just to ask.

lol, sorry to sound annoying (if i am) i am just curious as to what it takes to be a Moderator (from this forum
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/102943)
it says "determination and bribes to admins" what exactly do you guys count as a "bribe"? lol.

Thanks Flip218 for your enlightening responses.

If I remember ... It's based on recommendations from the current mods. Then the admins promote to mod when more mods are needed.

ok, I was wondering how that system worked. Thats a good way to do things. :) I vote for ScubaPete as one if the need more, unless he doesn't want the title.

Pop: We do keep a track of user's "offensive post reports" and they do play certain role when deciding for further moderators. But the system itself has also proven to ease the task of moderation and thus reduced the need of further mods. However, I do realize that our traffic and post figures have went through the roof lately and it is quite likely we will look into our mod situation shortly.

Most likely what will happen is that at least certain selected high-traffic forum rooms get their own "dedicated" mods who will be responsible of keeping those forums clean.

Once again, as a sidenote, I'd like to thank publicly our excellent mod team, who have managed to keep our forums one of the few spam-free, mostly-moron-free forums on the web. Yes, I know, sometimes some -- if not all -- of our mods seem to be "bit" harsh towards newbies who are asking re-re-re-re-re-re-repeatedly asked questions, etc, but then again: they do the job just for the sake of doing it, volunteering to keep the forums clean and once you bump into your 5700th double post for that day, it is quite understandable that sometimes you happen to say few rude words :)

But yes, I have certain names "short-listed" in my mind for new mods and obviously we check from our existing mods first before making any decisions whatsoever. But for now, no new mods coming up.

I just had to edit and close a thread where two different ipod spammers were cussing and fighting with each other over which one's scam link was the real deal. Now I've seen it all.

    A change ?

When last I heard, people who complained too much should watch that they aren't terminated. I'm sure the exact wording wasn't what you said but that was defiantly the message -

    [bold]offensive post reports button[/bold]

Is this like a member only thing and does not show on a newbie's browser or am I just blind with congenital brain damage?

    Be gentle now!!!
