HI, I'm new to this and not very technical minded, but I followed a guide that I found on the internet and downloaded the following as advised in the guide: DVD Decryptor, dvd2avi186,and TMPGenc encoder. I can't seem to get the correct versions as the author of the guide uses, and some of the settings shown in the guide are not available, for example, I don't seem to be able to create a WAV audio file, only an MP3. The real problem I seem to be having is that the TMPGenc encoder seems to insist on ecoding each idividual VOB file (or frame, not sure which). It is so SLOW. What am I doing wrong? Is there better freeware out there? It's taking almost 22 hours to encode the first of three file sections... I keep reading stuff on the internet, but it's so technical I don't understand it...surely it shouldn't take this long? It's not worth the wait!!!
Well, first of all, you unfortunately found a cray guide. A much, much, much better guide will be found at http://www.dvdripguides.com/dvdmenu.html . There you will find guids on going from DVD to VCD. If you don't know, a VCD is a movie that can be fit on one or two Regular CD Rs and can be played on a StandAlone DVD player at VHS quality. It will also teach you how to make SVCDs, a higher quality VCD, and DivXes, which are relatively small, 700 MB, and are almost DVD quality (but those only work on computers, they wont work on your Home/StandAlone DVD player.
