Afternoon Ryan hope your pc is back up and running. I found a new link at the bottom of this post. It may serve as a sub for Drewish's link, which may be down temporarily or permanently, never know. Worth a look.

Hi there. Looking for some help. I am looking to flash my starview box. Have a usb-rs232 lead(HL-340)and loaded the driver for it onto my laptop. Have connected up laptop to box using the lead and a gender changer. Everything looks good and then i click download on the GTROM_LOADER software, after locating the new .bin file. Download progress bar appears on screen, however download fails???

    Any ideas??

Are you sure you have a Null Modem lead? Have you set the com port bits per second to 115200 in device manager/com port/properties/port settings

I thought about using a gender changer but wasn't sure if it would work so I got a NULL MODEM cable. Have you been told a gender changer will work.

Come to think of it I can't see how a gender changer will work. I think as it is you have a straight wired connection to the box. The NULL MODEM is a crossed wire connection. I may be wrong but I think you need to get a NULL MODEM cable and forget all this gender bender stuff (leave it for the weekend).

His laptop may not have a DB9 interface as most new ones dont.Thats why he has to use his usb interface in conjunction with the null modem cable.

Do not mix a USB to Serial Cable when its USB to Serial Port Cable that is required. Some people get this wrong when asking. You can also get these in Maplins. You then have the required Port to connect the Null Modem Cable to.

You need to check if you have a clone or a gen box click the link at the end of my post to find out. Then I can tell you what version you can upload onto the SV

You dont have the gtloader you have 2,57 api according to your link.
