The best way to buy a harddrive for the lowest price is to check these stores each week (if you live in the USA). Best Buy, Circuit City, Office Depot, Office Max and Tiger Direct.com. Each week Maxtor usually offers a rebate on their drives but only in one store for a certain week. If the rebates were avalible at each of theses different stores at the same time, customers would only patronize (shop at/buy from)(for the newbies) their favorite store. The non-favorite stores would lose income from not being able to sell pencils to the people that used to come in to purchase the harddrives because they would have bought it already from their competitors.
You should shop around first before buying one. I found that drive for $20 less($69) at http://www.upgrade-solution.com/detail.cfm?show=yes&PID=600&add=yes or get the same drive in 160GB capacity for $5 more($74) at http://www.upgrade-solution.com/detail.cfm?show=yes&PID=669&add=yes I've ordered quite a few times from this online merchant and have had good success with them.
