I am using nero express 6 and on the front page it says what would you like to burn. I chose dvd-video files. Before I click on it it says that I must use an authoring tool such as nerovision. Which I haven't authored anything nor know how. Ok nope check that. When I went to add file it only shows the folder and when I opened it there was nothing there. Ok went back to start page and instead of choosing express I chose nero burning rom. I clicked on no multisession and then new. It now shows a list of my files to the right under names. They also have my windows media player symbol next to them. I right clicked it and copied to compilation. Then I chose to burn compilation and my dvd player wouldn't play it afterwards. Am I using nero incorrectly?

Yes I did and it worked fine. Nero is just a trial version though. Are there other programs that I could use that are free?
