The other day I was burning a game, and I think I had torrents downloading and my antivirus was on, so after I burnt the game and tried it, it was stuttering in the intro.

I was like, wtf. So I reburnt the game but turned off my torrents and my antivirus, and it works fine, although I used a different dvd-r disc the 2nd time around.

But I never had stuttering before, so word of advice, turn off all background programs that access your hard drive. It might screw up your game!

It's mainly when burning yes, if you have other any other background processes which take up a fair amount of system resources, it may affect the end result of your disc.

I cant burn my fame

Hi I wanted to burn a game (mafia) i downloaded it and i used nero. I used Verbatim DVD-R at max speed. First time it asked me that if i wanted to make a multisession disk. I press yes and it didnt work on my ps2 second time i tried the same thing except this time i didnt allow it to make a multisession disk. You said in your forum that i should burn it at 4x but my nero wont allow it. the options i have is Maximum -> 2.4x -> 2x -> 1x. What should i do now. Tell me if I should click mutisession or not. please help me!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't use Nero and don't use multi-session option.

Use ImgBurn (google it). Download that and use that. And don't burn at full speed either, burn at half the maximum disc speed.

Thank you MIK3H. Man you are the best. I have one problem. In one place you say "If not, skip the rest of this guide, and just burn the ISO." what does it mean. I'm confused. Does it mean if theres a big difference between the original .iso file and the rebuilt .iso file i can use DVD Decrypter and burn it on a DVD-R. Or does it mean I dont skip the rest of the stuff and read more and use softwares like CD/DVD ROM Gen and Apache 2. Please help me. You can reply me with email (***removed***) or write it in a forum.

Unless I need to send you something then I would stick with the forumns and I'd take your email outta your post it's against the rules for spam, purposes ;)

Well the rebuilt ISO means it takes dummy files out of the game, reducing the game ISO size and in some cases will make it work with swap magic where it wouldn't have it the game weren't rebuilt.

If you have tried burning with ImgBurn at half the maximum disc speed onto some high quality media like Verbatim and the game still won't work, then there's a good chance you will have to rebuild it. If you need the tools PM me with your email.

Hey everyone I'm new here so I apologize if I post this on the wrong section. Anyway, let's get on my problem now.

I recently burnt an ISO of Singstar 90's on a TDK DVD-R using Alcohol 120%, just as I always do. Then I inserted the disk into my PS2 and it normally booted the game. Everything was OK until the song selection screen appeared. I noticed that unlike all the previous SingStar games where you were listening a sample of the song highlighted, this was not the case with this one. I thought OK and I selected a song. It was then that my PS2 crashed completely while trying to load up the video clip.

I tried restarting my PS2 a couple of times and always selecting a different song but nothing changed. I also tried booting up a different Singstar game that works properly and then choose "Change Disk" and insert the problematic Singstar 90's. The results were exactly the same, PS2 crashed every time I selected a song.

Finally, I burnt a different ISO of the game at a different media and guess what? Same problem again! :(

Note that my PS2 hasn't had a single problem when playing DVD backup so far.

Anyone with same experience and willing to help me?

OK, I tried re-burning the iso on a different disc but the problem is still there. The game boots normally but when the song selection screen appears, there isn't the usual song playback on the background. I noticed that the equaliser bar is dead too. Even worse, my PS2 crashes just before the music video is about to get started.

I don't have an answer to that one. Have you tried burning at half the max speed of the disc?

***

Of topic, has there been instances where you need to rebuild a game that doesn't have dummy files? How about rebuilding a game that is DVD5, and no dummy files?

Anyone had to do that?

Sounds like the media you are using. TDK isn't very great quality. Get some Verbatim / Taiyo Yuden

Hey guys, I'm new here at afterdawn, but I have used some 360 tutorials, and the reliability has been great, but now I have a PS2 backup related question.

I just bought a pack of Memorex DVD-R (3 dvds), and have been reading that Memorex tends to be very unreliable because they seem to have a CMCMAG Media ID. I putone of my DVDs in my burner, and it tells me the Manufacturers ID is RITEKF1. I looked this up on Google, and one site says that Memorex RITEKF1 media is very reliable. Am I wrong to believe this?

Update at 10:00pm: I just burnt another game (Naruto SHippuden: Narutimate Accel) on Memorex, and it is running perfectly. I have experienced no problems (other than the fact that the game is in Japanese, which is fine) and no skipping whatsoever. Any other input?

Ok, so ive got a V5 console and ill hopefully have swap magic soon.

I can only find the good brands of DVD-r at 16x. Will these be OK on a V5 console and should I be burning the backups at 8x or 4x.

Thanks

They may just now, but Memorex are very poor quality discs. I will not be surprised if a few months down the line your laser starts having a bad reaction to them. Your laser will struggle to read them then soon after your laser may need replaced. I learnt that the hard way after using cheap riteks, I have to get two replacement lasers before I started using Verbatim. You may find that some games will work on memorex and others won't, I'd avoid the hassle and get some Verbatim. They are much better quality and your PS2 will thank you.

I wouldn't burn at the maximum speed, the rules to follow when burning PS2 games is to burn at half the maximum speed, in your case that will be 8x. I use 16x Verbatim DVD-R also, burn at 8x, no problems at all.

I recently bought a slimline ps2 (silver). Then I bought swap magic and now i've been testing out some of my backups. I've backup'd my "Bigs" game it plays ok for about 10 minutes roughly then the audio begins to skip...then load times get gradually slower and slower and then the video begins to skip. I'm having the same problem with my "rampage:total destruction" backup...I need to have these so when the originals get scratched up i have something in place of it.

I've been reading of the different medias to use...i was tottally unaware of the diffrent qualities of dvds. I assumed they were all the same! i've been buying dvd+r's for yeras now for other media uses and have had no problems whatsover...over 800 disks!! But now i'm wondering if i need to be more choicy about which product i buy. I'm currently holding a stack of Maxell DVD+R 16x (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-R03-04) And that is what i used for my backups which are giving me poor results. My preference in purhcasing blank media is Sams Club ...i like the competitive prices...but that is NOT local for me...i have to drive 2 hours to get to one. Someone tell me what to get...i cannot decide. I'm leaning towards Verbatim DVD-R 8x and I beleive i could probably pick some up at a local Wal-Mart or Target...possibly the local Drug Store!!!

With hundreds of replies in this particular forum and me being stuck w/ dialup that connects at an average of 21.6 ....i felt i should just ask :) So in a shorter version of my question....

What blank DVD brand, type, and speed should i buy and is there something particular i need to look for on the label of the disks?

Thanks!!

Ok here's what i've learned so far. When I back up my games I use TDK 8x . because there affordable, and they work great for game backups. But there not the best thats whats available where i live. The two best ranked disks to use are. Phillips 8x, and verbatim 8x. The lower speed disks are great because you have to back up your games at 1x speed to reduce skipping, and missed info. Second do not add a label to your disk. They'll work great for a while, but wait they'll begin to lose there info.

One in need, who can help or be helped...huh?

Since I have a slim PS2 now...i'll say it has been a bumpy ride.

The misatkes I have made is now realising I need to be particular on the media I use.

I agree, turn off oall other progrsma, like bittorrent because they use more resources when d/l'ing.

Also with the slim ones, I have been using RITEKF1(maxell) to back-up, and re-back up some of my old back-ups that won't work on my slimPS2. I think some of the older model PS2's had better lasers, becuase this is annoying.

Also, I burn at 8X. For some reason, at lower speeds, I don't get a great burn, and at hihger speeds it's the dame thing, so 6x works fine for me.

And it's not just some slimPS2's, all are slims are sensitive to media.

I had a Raxepheon fame I burned, and played fine on my old Fat ps2, but played it on my firneds slimPS2, and it would skip in the intro. Played it on my PS2 using cogsap, played fine. USed Swap magic, played fine...so silPS2's must have a different laser right??

I just answered my own question.

good to go!!

Depends on which PS2 you have. My SlimPS2 reads dvd+r discs fine. But I have heard that older PS2's can't read dvd+r.

Okay, so. I recently bought some Verbatim 8x DVD-R's, and tried to burn my backup .hack GU Volume 1 at 4x. Booted up swapmagic, did my thing, and for a moment it seemed to flawlessly. Seemed being the keyword.

When I got to the first loading screen (which occurs just before the title screen) and it took about five minutes to proceed to the title. I took it in stride, but from there it pretty much just went downhill. The voices were horribly out of sync with the subtitles, usually not even getting the chance to speak, the music skips during all cutscenes, It all but freezes when waiting for the EXP display after the first battle, and the loading time is so horrendous it makes me want to bash my head through a wall. Thinking this was just a bad disc, I tried another, only to get the same results.

Just wanting to try my luck, I tried burning it on a Memorex 16x DVD-R disc at 2x. Oddly enough, it works near flawlessly, the exception being some stuttering during the In-Game Movies.

Help? If it makes a difference, my discs are the 8x Digital Movie DVD-R type of verbatim, and my burner(Which came with the computer; I've really been way to lazy to get a new one)is, if I'm correct, a LITE-0N DVDRW S0HW-1633S. Lowest burn speed available to me with these discs are 4x.

Edit: My ps2 is also pretty old, but it usually reads reads most retail games just fine.

Double Edit: I'm burning with ImgBurn, Latest version I think.

I am trying to burn an ISO of narutimate accel shippuuden that i dled, and i am using Sony dvd-r s and burning with dvd decrypter. I am burning it at 4x speed and well all the copies that i am getting they all skip and stutter when i try to play them on my ps2.

i have about 5 copies of the game now that all skip and take about 10 mins to load.

what am i doing wrong?

hi, great thread going here guys, good sticky for noobs aswel.

well this is my first post and my problem is my games are cusrrenlty sticking and jumping all over the place. this has only recenlty started happening however. the major problem is that after a minute or two the audio jumps and sticks, repeating a second or less of audio over and over again. you can hear my slimline ps2 spinning with passion to try and recify this, (its like it tries about 4 or 5 times to load (sounds like a battery powered car revving its engine) and then continues.

i have tried only one type of media (which has worked on 50 odd occassions in the past fine) so i will try a new type when i can lay my hands on some, altho i am using RITEK05's which as i understand are not too bad. i have managed to get one game not to stick in my last 10 attemts and that was coz i rebuilt it, having tried that tho with others it does not solve the problem. i have tried nero, dvd decrypter and now imgburn, but to no avail.

one other promblem is that after playing a game for a while then rebooting my ps2 it will not load swap magic unless i leave it alone for a good hour or so!?

any help appriciated.

TIA

Hey, make sure you are burning at half the maximum speed of the disc. If that doesn't work, get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Sony aren't really that great a brand.

And yeah that's right, If you have other applications taking up system resources, then the end product won't have burned properly.
