Looking through the forums seeing all the confusing and time consuming ways of installing a new HD, getting a new EEprom etc..... I came across a tutorial on how to develop an external hd mod

    http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/externhdd.php

I have a firend I promised to mod his box however he loves his live. Now can't I make the external modification and have him simply switch the harddrives when he wants to use live and of course disable the chip when going on? If this is possible then it would save me the time trying to flash the new eeprom on the new HD and risking a possible mistake by him going online and geting baned. Thanks for the replies

so long as he uses the old hdd and the modchip disabled he should be fine :)

I know a few people that do this. there is also thing called xtender that will let you switch between two hdds etc. but its not cheap.

The safest thing to do is just have one box to mod fully and one stock for live. If live is a must this is a sure fire way. Have you tried the alternative? Check out http://teamxlink.co.uk/

he will have no problems whatsoever as long as he uses the stock xbox hd, and the chip turned off.

i have been using live, just like this for the past 6 months and have yet to be banned.
