When dealing with hundreds of dollars worth of DVD5(s) for backing up my video library I'd hate to multiply that by 3, even if I could find those bargain Verbatims. I'm not usually lucky enough to find even a pack left on a sale like that.

I have just the opposite situation from you when it comes to the size of the DVDs I back up. Other than the older classics, most of the movies I have go above 4.37GB. Even many of my older John Wayne, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, Burt Lancaster, and Jimmy Stewart movies are larger than 4.37GB. That's even after trimming the audio and subtitle tracks after removing extras. Nowadays with RB/CCE I don't worry about it.

WHAT lol I've never even seen them below 1.60 each. let alone 60 cent each . that price had to be a mistake

different countries, different stores, different prices. I have seen them for about $.75 per disc on sale (it is a rare occurance though)

I find that less than 25% of my movie-only back-ups, require no compression, especially most new ones. That's using Recode or CloneDVD with no menus.

i use DL sometimes for backing up Concert dvds

i always used to stick with DVD Shrink, but nowadays i use DVD Rebuilder for any movie that's under 80% compression and Shrink for everything over 80% (i use the quality settings depending on how good the movie is). All my ripping is done via DVDFab HD Decrypter (the free one) so my quick and easy trick is to just do movie only with DVDFab and chuck that into Rebuilder. I use Rebuilder heavily for Episodics anyway (never used Dual Layer), Rebuilder's a piece of cake to use, and movie only mode takes an average of 3hours (i know, ouch!) and episodics generally average out at 5hours. Worth the wait though for most discs. I personally can't be bothered messing about with different encoders within Rebuilder, i just stick to CCE for everything. I'm one for content over quality any day ie i only care about watching the actual film/story/whatever and the actual image quality is secondary, if the quality isn't quite good enough and becomes distracting i'd rather just watch the original DVD.

Seriously though, I've used DL discs with great results and still have some, but havent needed to use them since DVD-RB.
Still use free programs to get things ready for it too.

Chris believe me the pic wasn't that bad. and i had only posted maybe 3 pics in there in the last six months. so basically the mods have make it personal with me instead of anything to do with the rules. because since then they have been post with girls in them and they seem to be flying fine lol.

aabbccdd, welcome back big guy, anyway a short responce to some of the questions I noticed, I did my own little investigation about his pic that supposeadly got him kicked off again, there was absolutly nothing offensive about it, it was the same old arianna pics he always posted with a bathing suit on, this was nothing but the fact that somebody had a hard-on for him period.
