After many successful backups of my DVD movies, using DVD Decrypter and Nero Recode I finally had a problem with the movie
    . The error message reads:
    IO Error
    Device (1:0:0)
    scsi status : 0x 02
    CDB 28 00 002B 1D 42 00 00 13 00
    Interpretation Read (IO)-Sectors 2825538 2825556
    Sense Area FO 00 03 00 2B 1D 50 10 31 0C 04 0A11 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Interpretation Read: Unrecovered read error
I'm running DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and the nero ultra update from 3/15/05. I never got to the recode operation the error is at about 65% of the Decrypt operation. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Will gladly provide any additional info that would help with diagnosis.

I/O errors are mainly caused because your drive does not like the disk, it is dirty/defective. Try cleaning the disk, using another brand media, using another original, and possibly updating the firmware in your drive

Thanks to both Jim_Dandy and arniebear. I cleaned the disk. Didn't work. Then I cleaned it again and it worked! I visited the link for updating my firmware but felt not knowledgeable enough to take the chance. There were 2 updates available (v.101 and v.104) and an RPC-1 (region free firmware) I'm currently runnig v.A100. Since the cleaning worked I'll keep it simple. I'm curious though. Do you guys think I should update? If so, should I update to v.101 and then v.104 or just go right to v.104. My drive is an LG /HLDS GSA 4081B.

What the firmware does is let your drive recognize a wider variety of media. Since you did not describe a problem related to burning, your burner has been working for you, and likes whatever brand media you are using, i.e. Verbatim, TDK, Fuji, etc. I had not flashed my firmware on my year and half old nec1300a because I always used Verbatim and it worked, then about two months ago I changed to Sony and it would not burn, I finally flashed and it works on anything, well except really cheap media. What I am saying is if is working for you fine, but if you develop problems flash, try the first update, and see how it goes.

Thanks again arniebear. 24 hours ago I was totally in the dark with regard to my back up problem. Now not only is the problem solved, I also know a bit more about I/O errors and potential firmware flashing. I'm feelin great. Thanks
