    hi there

I have recently tried to re-record over my miniDV tapes for the 3rd/4th time and i keep seeing lines on the image of the original recording. The camera also randomly tries to clean the casette from time to time with no apparent sucsessfull outcome.

    I am using a sony DCR-HC14E

is there a way of cleaning the tape heads or something to stop this happening?

    thanks for any advice

There are dry cleaning tapes to clean your head, but don't use them too often because they actualy grind off a thin layer of your head...
There are also wet types, but they merely wipe the dirt to one side of the head, so the the result will not last too long.
Better is to take your camera to a dealer for cleaning once a year or every two years.

BTW: My advise, don't try to save money by using old tape over and over again...
