I am using dvd shrink to put some kid videos onto one dvd. What is the highest compresion I can use without noticing it? VCR quality is good enough for what I am doing.

if al you need is vcr then 50% is easily achievable
as far as when you start noticing compression, it depends on the screen and personal taste (i can see it a lot easier on my 110cm rear projector than i can on my crappy old 36cm CRT)

it also depends on the source. If you are compressing a store-bought DVD, you can compress that quite a bit before you will notice, because they use more sophistocated equipment. If you are compressing a camcorder-made movie (which is sounds like you are) you'll notice the difference a lot more.
