can someone give me a list of all compatible disk? iv used sony,memorex,target brand, all worked good. iv had no luck with 8x tdk or office depot -rw can this be fixed? also wats the best dvd brand?
Call Emerson support at 800-256-2487, tell them your problem with 8x media and they will walk you through some steps, then send you a firmware upgrade.
Drew, today Emerson emailed me the following: DVD-R 4x can be used 8x or higher will result in a disc error. DVD-RW 2x can be used 4x or higher will result in a disc error. The following discs have been tested and are proven to be compatible with our DVD recorders: MEMOREX DVD-R FUJIFILM DVD-R FUJIFILM DVD-RW IMATION DVD-RW IMATION DVD-R 2.0 TDK DVD-RW 2X TDK DVD-R 2X The following are brands of discs we DO NOT recommend: MEMOREX DVD-RW SONY DVD-RW SONY DVD-R TDK DVD-RW 4x TDK DVD-R 4x DVD+R or DVD+RW us incompatible. Not sure if your problem was fixed or not, as you wrote your question in May. I bought a used unit, and just heard about an 800number to upgrade to accept faster discs. I'm now learning about the kinks, things the manual doesnt show! Hope this helped - ROB.
Here are more discs that I have tested and used in this machine: Maxell DVD-R 4x (try to find discs Made in Japan) Maxell DVD-RW 1x-2x (get them at Walmart or Office Depot) Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-R 1x-4x (made in India and Taiwan are great) Verbatim Data Life Plus DVD-R 4x Spin-X DVD-R 4x (Moser Baer-India)(hard to find, but work great) Khyphermedia DVD-R 4x Imation DVD-R 4x Comp USA DVD-R 4x (are ok, but do not give the same quality picture as those above. Plus the life expectancy is not long on these discs) All of the above work fine in these units. Its also been reported that Sony DVD-RW 1x-2x work fine in these units too. (I have not used these) I would stay away from Memorex. Not sure why Funai says stay away from sony. My assumption is that Mitsubishi makes the DVD drives for these units so maybe they do not want us to buy the competitions products. (Mitsubishi makes Verbatim) Who knows...
