xbox error 5 (please help)

i keep getting a screen that comes up on my xbox. it says to contact customer service and theres a number 5 in the top left corner. i have searched the web and i now know that my hard drive is unlocked. does anybody know what to do.

Hi, Xbox Error 5 means that your HDD needs to be locked!! Your original Xbox HDD comes locked and married to that particular Motherboard, also the Eeprom on the board has the passcode to the HDD in question. It basically means that you can't take the original HDD out of your xbox and put in your buddys Xbox unless you unlock it from your Xbox first. With all that being said, if your modchip is misaligned or the D0 is not in place then the box boots the origianl TSOP(bios) and the result is error 5(HDD needs to be locked) because the original bios requires a locked drive.

 

do u know how to lock the hdd. my xbox isnt modchipped it is softmodded

 

I believe you will need to chip your Xbox or softmod it to lock it now. Did you swap HD's or what?

 

no its just the standard 8gig hd

I would suggest getting the Xecutor 3 solderless. But you could also look at the Xenium Ice Solderless. You will be able to find more help however if you get the X3 solderless, because the support for that chip is UNBELIEVABLE! Sadly, the prices are somewhat high for solderless chips, around $65-90.
